The H.M. Briggs Library holds four illuminated manuscript leaves, or single pages. The pages consist of religious texts. One leaf is the Biblia Sacra Latina, which is a page from the Latin Bible and dates to the 13th century. The leaves were purchased from the estate of Morris Elmer Nellermoe, Jr. (1926-2004).

The Hours of the Virgin, a section of the Book of Hours, which are devotional prayers for different times of the day. Hours of the Virgin, also known as the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, contained psalms, lessons, hymns, and prayers said at each of the eight canonical hours: Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline. The Book of Hours was the bestselling book of the Middle Ages. These pages date from the middle of the 15th century.

The Biblia Sacra Latina chapter numerals in red and blue with much pen work ornamentation. The work contained a number of historiated and illuminated initials, remarkable for the extremely wide margins.

This collection consists of correspondence, writings, maps, field notebooks, and research projects conducted by Dr. Carter Johnson during his academic career. A large number of photographs, slides, and digital images of Johnson's research, and include various plants and trees growing in various locations throughout the United States, primarily the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Badlands National park in western South Dakota, Itasca State Park in Minnesota, and North Dakota.

This collection is composed of material relating mainly Dan W. Johnson and to the city of Marshall in Lyon County, Minn. Included are files relating his military and professional career, his family, collected research and files dealing with Jeanne Johnson & Antiques Ltd., Marshall, Minn., Lyon County, Minn., Southwest State University, and Schwan's Home Service, Inc.

This collection is composed of collected materials presumably used for research, correspondence and writing and miscellaneous materials.

The collected material is composed of numerous pamphlets, newspapers and clippings, an 1862 book of poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, material of the Socialist Party in the United States, and a file of research on Steven Truscott, a man who was convicted of murder in Ontario, Canada but may have been wrongly accused.

The general papers include correspondence, some notes and an exam from some of Sewrey's history courses, miscellaneous items and photographs. The miscellaneous items include a map showing lakes, railways, wagon roads, hotels and other points of interest of the Lake District in the vicinity of Alexandria, Minnesota.

The manuscripts cover several topics but the main scope of this material is of anti-Catholicism and frontier Minnesota. Included in the manuscripts is a draft of Sewrey's master's thesis titled The Protestant Minister in Frontier Minnesota.

The published works also covers several topics but the main scope of this material is anti-Catholicism and Communism. Included in this material are two transcripts of a radio program titled Professor's Forum that was broadcast from the South Dakota State College radio station.

Transcription of the Susan A. Jones diaries was performed by Virginia Vander Wal, great-granddaughter of Susan, in March 2006. The diaries appear to have been written while Susan resided in Massachusetts and Wisconsin. The entries provide insight into her daily activities from 1863-1870. Topics include various social activities, mention of the weather, work activities, and important events, such as funerals, first communion, engagement to be married, etc.

The 1863 transcription was from a very small diary that was written before Susan married Henry. There are several entries concerning the Civil War in this diary.

Some of the original diaries were written on loose pages and were very old and fragile. Others were written in 3 x 4 inch diary books with three days to one side of each page. The writing on these pages was very small and faded, especially those entries written in pencil, making is difficult to read.

Blanks in the text indicate words that could not be read due to illegible handwriting or damaged areas on the paper. Words typed in brackets, { }, are words which a guess was made at some of the letters. The spelling of words in the original diary was maintained.
Virginia Vander Wal includes an account of the transcribing of the diaries as well as some genealogical background of Susan A. Jones. Virginia's personal notations are indicated in bold-faced font in the transcription. Also included is a photocopied photograph of Susan A. Jones and discharge papers for Henry R. Jones.

The diaries are not complete in that some years may not have entries for each day or month.

Collection is composed of writings, teaching and research materials, and material related to his non-teaching professional activities.

This collection is an artificial collection composed of collected materials, publications and papers of various buildings and landmarks located on the campus of South Dakota State University.

Material is added as it is unearthed. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information. The files consist of such materials as dedication programs, correspondence, clippings, architectural plans and drawings, specifications, and photographs. The files of each building or landmark vary.

Collection consists of historical documents relating to the Hawley-Lothrop Families and William Walters. The collection documents the families during the late nineteenth to the mid twentieth centuries. The collection includes scrapbooks and photo albums. Of interest are the materials relating to William H. Walters' time at South Dakota State.

Composed of architectural drawings by F.W.C. Kuehn created for various projects. Included are rural school plans and county highway maps designed by Kuehn as well as bids and plans for projects.

The architectural drawings include work from both Kuehn's years enrolled in the International Correspondence Schools and his career as an architect.

The general items are composed of miscellaneous items related to Kuehn.

The random specifications are composed of construction specifications for projects Kuehn worked on.

This collection is composed of academic materials, clippings and releases, history material, photographs, scrapbooks and reports. The academic material deals mainly with the establishment of a core curriculum within the College. The clippings and releases are newspaper clippings and news releases about the college. The history material is a compilation of historical material and alumni memories of the College of Home Economics. Also included is correspondence, building plans, and lists of outstanding graduates.
The photographs include many miscellaneous photographs documenting the history of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences that were found loose in the collection or from dismantled scrapbooks.
The photographs from the scrapbooks pertain to deans, research, education, nutrition and food science, and textiles, clothing and interior design.

The reports are composed mainly of annual reports to the president of the university and some federal reports to the U.S. Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare.

Richards was an admirer of Dr. Hansen and often stopped to visit him in his office. After Dr. Hansen's death in 1950, David asked for and received, permission to keep a few souvenirs and then dug through the trash filling several boxes with papers of historical value.

This collection is composed writings for the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in the form of bulletins and circulars, manuscripts for articles and publications that include Hansen's notations and corrections, correspondence with friends, colleagues, and customers interested in ordering seeds or rootstocks. Also included are catalog descriptions of plants to be included in seed catalogs, transplanting cards on which researchers will find records of planting and transplanting of plant hybrids, and research projects and reports to the Agricultural Experiment Station and material related to the South Dakota Horticultural Society.

Some items of note are collected Russian publications, seed catalogs and Seeds and Plants Imported published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture which list the plants and seeds imported by Hansen. Researchers will also find some material related to Hansen's travels.

The publications and manuscripts by Hansen related to many different horticultural topics: apples, crab apples, apricots, cherries, currants, grapes, pears, plums, plums, roses, roses, alfalfa, trees, plant genetics and breeding.
Researchers will also find clippings related to Hansen and photographs.

This collection is composed mainly of materials related to the Promotional Techniques for Engineers class which Benton Lee developed with Dean of Engineering Ernest Buckley in 1987. Material consists of general files for the class including lecture notes, class notebooks, and audio-visual material. Also included are personal files from 1992-2010 and cover Benton Lee's years as a graduate assistant for the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium and diversity coordinator for the College of Engineering.

Promotional Techniques for Engineers Class

In 1987, Dean of Engineering, Ernest Buckley and Mary Jo Benton Lee developed the Promotional Techniques for Engineers course. The concept was to teach journalism skills to engineering students and then ask them to promote major university-wide and state-wide events with their newly acquired skills. The ten students each year, who were hand-picked for this experience, all became student leaders.

Between 1987 and 1992, the students were routinely given budgets of $20,000 to use for the promotion of major events that drew speakers and participants from around the country. These events, all sponsored by the College of Engineering, included an Impact '87 Trade Fair, a Making Connections ethics seminar, and an Expanding Horizons Together entrepreneurship workshop.
The Promotional Techniques for Engineers Class series is composed of general files, class lecture notes, class notebooks on promotional campaigns, and audio-visual material. An item of note is the proceedings from the American Society of Engineering Education conference which includes a paper that explains the promotional techniques class in detail (page 1-8).

Class Projects

The Class Projects series is composed of promotional campaign material for various projects that the class worked on. Included are files on the Entrepreneurs' Workshop (Expanding Horizons Together - A Seminar on Entrepreneurship Opportunities), the Impact '87 Trade Fair, and the Seminar on Ethics (Making Connections - A Seminar on Ethics in a Technological Society). Included are promotional campaign reports which details the promotional techniques the class used for each project.

Personal Files

The Personal Files series is composed of other College of Engineering material that Benton Lee collected during her tenure. Included are files of the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium while she was a graduate assistant (1992-1998) during the time when South Dakota's tribal colleges were incorporated into the Consortium. Also included are files while she served as the Diversity Coordinator for the College of Engineering (1998-2010). Benton Lee took this position after she completed her Ph.D. in Sociology in 1998.

Flandreau Indian School Success Academy

South Dakota State University-Flandreau Indian School Success Academy is an early and intensive college preparatory program for American Indian high school students. This material includes reports and a history of the Flandreau Indian School.

This collection is composed of the original ledger of minutes of the Board of Regents for the Dakota Agricultural College from 1884-1895. Included in the minutes is information that details the organization of the college from the selection of the first president to the formation of committees to oversee the finances, course of study, farm, buildings and college lands, admission requirements, and budgets of the college. Some of the later minutes include reports from the president of the college. A notation appears at the end of the ledger indicating a second volume, which we do not have in our custody and its whereabouts is unknown. The second item in the collection is a petition, signed by many students of Dakota Agricultural College. It requests that the English/History professor be removed from his post.

"The collection is composed of a course schedules, short course announcements, correspondence, meeting minutes, procedures for registration of classes and enrollment summaries, statistics, and reports.

The Registrar's records are composed of a variety of material generated by the Office of Records and Registration. The bulk of the material consists of registration schedules for courses available at South Dakota State University. Included are announcements of short courses that cover a range of subjects, from agriculture to piano tuning. Also included are directories of students and faculty, programs from baccalaureate services, and information for fall registration, meeting minutes from various committees, correspondence, newspaper clippings, registration procedures, guidelines for selection of students for senior college, scheme of study forms for students, summer session registration changes in procedure, and a list of course number changes."

The College on the Hill is an anecdotal history of South Dakota State University from 1881 to 2003 co-written by Amy Dunkle and V.J. Smith, Alumni Association Director.

This collection is composed of material collected by J.P. Hendrickson in his work with the South Dakota Constitutional Revision Commission and the writing of the Home Rule Charter for Brookings, South Dakota in 1996. Folders contain reports, commission documents, minutes, correspondence, material relating to constitutional amendments, and notes.

This collection is composed ledgers for the Boarding Club. Included are records for expenses, board, labor and refunds for students who were members of the club.

This collection is composed of the minutes from faculty meetings held at South Dakota State University from its inception up through the 1980's. These files are fairly complete; with large gaps being noted from fall 1898-Spring 1903 and June 1907-March 1918. Very few other minutes are missing, however. Included with some of the files are materials related to topics being discussed at the meetings, such as a petition by a student group, or a brochure from a campus event. For the most part, the contents of the minutes are fairly dry and businesslike, although some gems might be discovered with careful attention.

This collection is composed of administrative records, cataloging records, collection development files, committee and meeting records, financial records, library serials files, off campus relations files, and reports.

Folders consist of administrative records, publications, newsletters, reports, photographs, policies related to the operation of the library, material pertaining to special events, circulation, inter-library loan, reserves, information services, acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and bindery.

Also included are meeting minutes for committees such as the Social Committee, Publicity Committee, Collections and Connections Committee, Exhibits, Arts and Signage Committee, Staff Development Committee, the University Library Committee, and Faculty and Staff Library Committees.

Composed of posters, newsletter, clippings, programs, pamphlets, brochures, and publications for events sponsored by the University Programs Council, including the arts, concerts, Hobo Day, and other special events.

This collection is composed of files from the office of David F. Pearson while serving as Vice President for Administration. Folders consist mainly of correspondence and files dealing with the F. O. Butler Foundation, the engineering controversy of the early 1970s, and material dealing with the celebration of the United States Bicentennial celebration on the campus of South Dakota State University.

The correspondence consists of letters sent and received by David F. Pearson while service was Vice President for Administration.

The F.O. Butler Foundation files are composed of material dealing with the organization of the F.O. Butler Foundation at South Dakota State University. Folders contain approved requests, Articles of Incorporation, campus enrichment, and correspondence files.

The Engineering Controversy files is composed of material dealing with the controversy surrounding the possible removal of the College of Engineering from South Dakota State University in the early 1970s. Folders contain correspondence, analysis, departmental actions, clippings, and master plan material.

The Bicentennial Celebration files is composed of material dealing with the celebration of the United States Bicentennial on the campus of South Dakota State University. Folders consist of budget and proposal material, committee minutes, calendar of events, and correspondence.

This collection is composed mainly of promotional material sent to prospective students. Also included is material related to orientation for new students. Folders consist of newsletters, miscellaneous pamphlets and other publications describing possible career paths for prospective students of South Dakota State University.

This collection is composed of correspondence, ledgers from the beginnings of the society that include the constitution of the society and minutes from meetings and programs from plays presented by the society. Found inside the back of the ledger from 1903-1931 were loose papers that include clippings, notes, membership information, reports and an orations from a 1916 contest on Booker Washington.

This series is composed of secretary's books, the constitution and bylaws for the society and a small booklet of prayer meeting topics. The secretary's books consist of the constitution and bylaws and amendments to them, membership lists, and minutes.

The bulk of the material is composed of administrative material generated and received by the Office of the President of South Dakota State University.

Folders consists of correspondence, budget material, reports, committee minutes, accreditation material, master and strategic planning files, South Dakota Board of Regents files, material related to Resolution 21, the college name change, and the engineering controversy of the 1970s. Also includes are files related to student organizations, campus buildings, statistics, anniversary celebrations, university history, and photographs.

No material has been found for the following university presidents: James Chalmers, Robert L. Slagle, George Lincoln Brown, Harold M. Crothers, and H. Ray Hoops.

Administrative

This material is composed of material dealing with promotion of the Schultz-Werth Award, workload policies, university self-study reports, faculty development opportunities, faculty recognition programs, and academic administrative events calendars. Folders include brochures, posters, reports, correspondence, newsletters, and programs.

Commencement

The Vice President and Provost of Academic Affairs is responsible for the organization of commencement exercises at South Dakota State University. The material is composed files collected by the Vice President and Provost of Academic Affairs for the organization of commencement exercises at South Dakota State University. Folders include programs, addresses, distinguished professor and honorary doctorate programs, scripts, and photographs (both print and digital).

Committees

The committees material is composed mainly of the minutes from the Academic Affairs Committee. These minutes have notations in the margin indicating the subject of each paragraph and include an index for the years 1961-1988 which gives access to a variety of subjects discussed at each meeting dating from 1961 to 1986; minutes for 1987 to present are housed in the Vice President of Academic Affairs office. Also included in this series are reports of the Biology/Microbiology Study Committee, the Engineering Advisory Council and the Committee on Health and Sanitation; and minutes for the Regents of Education Inter-Institutional Committee for Education Coordination and the Board of Regents Committee on Academic and Student Affairs visit to SDSU.

Curriculum requests

The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost is responsible for curriculum management at South Dakota State University. Curriculum management is defined as the allocation and utilization of institutional resources to support needed viable programs and to promote effective teaching-learning, scholarship, and service. The material is composed of curriculum request submitted to Academic Affairs for approval by that office and the South Dakota Board of Regents. These requests are composed of Minor Course Modifications (formerly Class I), New/Revised Course Requests (formerly Class II), Program Requests (formerly Class III), Intent to Plan Forms, Program Modifications, and Program Terminations. Also included are files dealing with Common Course Numbering, summaries of net changes for the university, and correspondence. Researchers will also find a few Academic Affairs Committee minutes scattered throughout the collection.

Departmental Standards

This material is composed of papers which include information on departmental and faculty performance and goals for each department. Also included is a substantial amount of correspondence relating to the Departmental Standards.

Institutional Program Reviews

The primary purpose for conducting institutional program reviews is to continuously improve the quality of educational programs. Periodic program review involves stakeholders in the improvement of academic programs. Such review includes an analysis of past performance which is used to inform present and future directions and decision-making. The review process must be integrated with strategic planning and budgeting, with regional and specialized accreditation processes, and with student-learning outcome assessment. This material is composed of reviews for various programs and departments, arranged within their respective colleges. Also included are summaries of Institutional Program Reviews by year that were submitted to the Board of Regents.

Subject files

This series is composed of budget reductions and reallocation of funds material, the Board of Regents goals and mission study, the Student Implementation Project, Bush Faculty Development Project and Division I. Folders contain budget and reallocation material including data on the Governor’s 5% reduction, Resolution 21, and Resources Allocation Model (or RAM). The Board of Regents goals and mission study includes the data from the Board of Regents Committee on Academic and Student Affairs visit to South Dakota State University, impacts, priorities, and proposed changes. The Division I is composed of reports, correspondence and clippings.

The South Dakota Farmers Alliance Records consists of an address of President Loucks, proceedings from a convention in 1887, and an advertisement for A Book for Farmers.

This collection is composed of the constitution and by-laws for the society as well as programs for graduation exercises and plays presented by the society. Also included are play programs presented in collaboration with other literary societies.

The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Stations Records is composed of material generated by the stations and includes financial reports, general office records, research, institutional reviews, and publications, including some bulletins and circulars. Also included are files related to station biochemistry.

The administrative files are composed of general office records generated by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. Folders contain newsletters, committee files, task force files, correspondence, brochures, programs, and financial data. In addition, the series contains reports of the Agricultural Experiment Station during the time period of 1907-1916. This information should also appear in the published reports of the Agricultural Experiment Station.

The research is composed of research conducted by Experiment Station staff. Folders consist mainly of final reports, but may also include some correspondence. Material for inactive and terminated projects is also included.

Publications consist of bulletins, circulars, leaflets, and pamphlets published by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station on research conducted by staff of the Experiment Station and are meant for distribution like a periodical. Some cross-over in subject and title may occur between bulletins and circulars. This is an incomplete collection of Agricultural Experiment Station publications. Items are added to this collection only after it has been determined that the library's collection is complete. It is suggested that, when conducting research, the library catalog be search for a particular title, author or number. Various other South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station publications can be found in this collection. Folders consist mainly of report or preliminary reports. Also included are leaflets and pamphlets and a video cassette on manure management. Leaflet or pamphlet numbers were included if present on the publication.

Records related to seed releases and station biochemistry can also be found here. The seed releases material is comprised of information regarding various seeds that have been developed through the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment station. Records related to South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station Biochemistry consist of are administrative files, research, and publications.

This collection is composed of accounting records, budget requests and financial reports. Folders are composed of correspondence, vouchers, reports, ledgers, payroll records, deposit tickets and various fund vouchers, budget requests, financial reports, internal management reports, and operating budget reports for South Dakota State University and departments within.

The general office records are made up of records that did not indicate coming from a particular fund. The bulk of this series consists of correspondence between the chief financial officer and various businesses, college faculty and staff. Also included are reports, receipts, and vouchers. Some items of note include correspondence between the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and Presidents Briggs during the early 1960s, material dealing with the management of the Ladies Dormitory between 1908 and 1910 and ledgers of tuition and fees from the 1880s to the mid-1920s.

The Adams fund is composed of accounting records for disbursements paid through the Adams Fund. Included are payroll records, general supplies and equipment records, horticulture records, veterinary equipment purchases, grain drying lab supplies, travel expenses, and records dealing with N.E. Hansen supplies for fruit breeding project, chemicals, grain. Also included are abstracts of disbursements.

The Endowment fund is composed of vouchers for disbursements made through the Endowment Fund.

The Experiment Station fund is composed accounting records for the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. Records are arranged according to division or fund. The Agricultural Division shows the cost of feed. The Incidental includes travel expenses and membership dues for the Association of American Agricultural Colleges and Experiment Station. The Printing costs covered expenses for the Collegian, forms, bulletins, and circulars. The Building Division covered costs for building a silo, a plant house, and various other buildings. Records from the Chemical Division show costs for lab chemicals, furniture, supplies, and equipment. The Executive Division consists of records for office supplies, furniture, and travel expenses. The Entomology records detail the purchase of beneficial and injurious insects, supplies, equipment, and furniture. Also included are records related to Horticulture and N.E. Hansen and the purchase of plant materials and seeds.
The Farm fund is composed of vouchers for the purchase of lumber, feed, straw for bedding, equipment, repairs, registration of livestock, and State Fair expenses.

The general fund is composed of accounting records for maintenance on campus, as well as water and light expenses, telephone and telegraph charges, travel, freight, postage, equipment, supplies, and farm expenses for livestock, feed purchases and machinery repairs. Also included are expenses for the Highmore Sub-station, including labor, buildings (notices to contractors, construction costs, insurance,) team rental, and feed. Some items of note include the purchase of one mounted skeleton of a crane and the purchase of sea animals, including starfish, sea urchins, fish, and crayfish.

The Hatch fund is composed of accounting records for agriculture, botany, horticulture, printing expenses, payroll and fuel and light expenses for the campus. The Hatch Act of 1887 gave federal land grants to states in order to create a series of agricultural experiment stations, as well as pass along new information, especially in the areas of soil minerals and plant growth. State agricultural stations created under this act were usually connected with land-grant state colleges and universities founded under the Morrilll Act of 1862.

The local and endowment fund is composed of accounting records for breaking sod at Highmore Experiment Station, payroll, printing costs for the Jackrabbit yearbook, washing, President Chalmer's travel expenses, and land purchase (Horace Fishback). Also included is a letter from President Chalmers to R.A. Larson discussing disallowed travel expenses.

The local fund. is composed of advertising expenses, Regent travel expenses, milk purchases, State Fair expenses, repairs, student and
janitor payroll, traveling expenses, equipment, supplies, meals for threshing crew, and livestock expenses.

The Morrilll fund is composed of accounting records for salaries, library books and subscriptions, museum expedition costs, cooking and sewing supplies and equipment, mechanical shop supplies, horticultural, botanical, veterinary, dairy, astronomy, entomology, physics and chemistry and supplies and equipment, travel expenses, diplomas, and statements of accounts.

The State fund is composed of accounting records for the library, steam heating, furnishings, barns and fences, janitor, engineering, incidental funds, repairs, supplies, dynamite, telegraph wire, books, fuel and lights, and the Highmore experiment station costs of breaking sod. An item of note included "Territory of Dakota" heading that has been corrected to "State of South Dakota" in November 1889.

The budget requests and financial reports is made up of internal management reports, and operating budget reports for South Dakota State University and departments within.

Composed of materials related to the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. Included are newsletters, pamphlets, programs, and other publications produced by the department.

This collection is composed of records of the Military Science Department, ROTC records and scrapbooks for the Pershing’s Rifles and the Pershingettes. Material consists primarily of records from the Military Science Department at South Dakota State University and includes programs, clippings, a course catalog, a scrapbook, books and artifacts. Some items of note include a file of clippings dealing with the death of Omar Bradley and registers of graduates and former cadets of the United States Military Academy from 1802-1978. Other interesting items consist of dance cards for military balls held in 1912 and 1913. The artifacts consist of two hats used by cadets around 1888 and 1927.

Material produced by the Reserve Officers' Training Corps Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs. Folders contain programs, newsletters, pamphlets, posters, announcements, invitations, photographs and an artifact. Topics covered include Governor's Day, awards, military balls, recruitment, and commissioning exercises. The artifact in this series is a 48-star United States flag that was used by the ROTC color guard prior to 1958. The photographs consist mainly of Army ROTC photographs of field training at various locations (Palisades State Park near Garretson, South Dakota; Oak Lake near White, South Dakota), Camp Adventure Training, awards banquets, Dining-In, Commissioning ceremonies, ROTC Days, Governor's Day, and Hobo Day parade float entries.

This collection is composed of material Harding collected while researching the history of South Dakota State University. Much of the material is from the works of Robert F. Kerr and William H. Powers, and it appears that Harding used their notes while compiling his own. Also included are many notes from newspapers, which may prove helpful to anyone studying the earliest days of the University. Also included in this material are Harding's Master's thesis and some other varied writings.

This collection is composed of very small artificial collections of material by or about certain student organizations. Material is added as it is unearthed. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information. The folders consist of such materials as programs, charters, newsletters, correspondence, clippings, and flyers announcing events for organizations. The files of each organization vary.

This collection is composed of general office records and publications generated by the Office of the Dean for the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences. Folders consist of correspondence, course changes/additions, fact sheets, short course and conference materials, college promotional material, newsletters, brochures, posters and other publications. Also included are budgets and financial reports for the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences. Included are salary budget, budget reports for the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and financial reports for the Cooperative State Research Service, a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. The salary budgets, also called salary lists, are comprised of position listings for each department within the college, the contract pay for the previous year and the recommended pay for the upcoming fiscal year. Correspondence and research on the contract pay for faculty and staff in other institutions can also be found in this collection.

This collection is composed mainly of newsletters and periodicals produced by the College of Pharmacy. Also included are programs, clippings, pamphlets, and other office records. An item of note is a glass pharmacy beaker.

This is an artificial collection of student essays written between 1890 and 1901. The essays do not appear to be theses, nor do they appear to be only senior class essays. Some authors appear more than once, and none appear to be graduate students. While all of the essays have an author and title, many include only the graduating class of the author, not the date the essay was written.

The physical makeup of the essays is interesting. Most of the essays are around 20 pages in length, indicating work of some depth. A few are bound, while others are sewn together and some are stapled. Some are handwritten, but most are typewritten. Many of them have ribbons or other decoration on the cover or holding the piece together. Illustrations found in them are hand drawn, sometimes in great detail.

The essays themselves are of some interest, although their informational content is most likely dated. The topics covered by the essays are quite diverse, ranging from bread to bridge construction. A large number of the essays seem to relate to the study of the English language, the mechanical arts, with agriculture, engineering and woodcarving. Some other topics include entomology, molds, music and sewing.

The South Dakota Climate Office Records consists mainly of weather observation data sheets from South Dakota as well as some weather reporting stations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wyoming. The data sheets are comprised of daily observations recorded by volunteers in communities throughout the state. Data about precipitation, air temperature, soil temperature, and various other forms of climatological information is gathered. Data gathered is varied based on the complexity of the observation equipment based at each station.

Also included are various office records, such as graduate student master's theses, photographs, and grants.

This collection is composed mainly of publications and promotional material produced by the Office of the Director of the Alumni Association. Folders include newsletters, flyers, invitation to gatherings, and State magazine. Also included is material dealing with reunions, mainly invitations in the form of postcards.

The South Dakota State University Ephemera collection is an artificial collection, which consists of ephemera related to South Dakota State University that does not fit in to the scope any other collections. Material is added as it is unearthed if it is unique, unusual or illustrative. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information.

Material is this collection includes, but is not limited to, menus, clippings, programs, bookmarks, invitations, and diplomas.

This is an artificial collection that consists of 95 athletic and general scrapbooks, which contain newspaper clippings from newspapers and publications from across the state of South Dakota. The athletic scrapbooks include clippings from all sports featured at South Dakota State University from 1947 to 1967. The general scrapbooks cover a wide range of topics; from articles featuring athletics, agriculture and research conducted on campus to articles written about and by college presidents and faculty members. The clippings inside of the scrapbooks are arranged by year and not topic.

This series is composed of secretary's and treasurer's books, a handbook for members programs for lecture courses, programs for plays, the YMCA Entertainment Series, a student conference, and installation banquets.

The secretary's books consist of minutes from meetings, membership information, and included some loose material in the back (correspondence, notes, etc.).

This collection is composed of postcards and other items related to trips taken by Elmer and Cecile Sexauer. Also includes diaries, scrapbooks and family materials collected primarily by Cecile (Welch) Sexauer.

The general material consists mainly of essays written by Cecile Welch Sexauer during her college career. Also included is a Christmas card list of the Sexauer's for 1971, scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, a book of Agricultural Department Reports presented to Elmer Sexauer in 1947, and certificates presented to the Sexauer's on the anniversary of their 50th college reunion. Some examples of their personal stationery, grade school papers from Elmer's youth, and a language paper of Laura Sexauer, Elmer's sister are also included.

A scrapbook of Elizabeth Anne Baker, age 9 weeks, chronicles her first visit to her grandparents’ home during Easter 1947. It was prepared by Jeannette Gagnon-Abbey for the Sexauer's.

The scrapbook was presented to Elmer Sexauer by the Grain and Feed Dealers National Association as a permanent reminder of the Forty-fourth Annual Convention held at Louisville, Kentucky October 13-15, 1940. Elmer was president of the Association at that time.
The postcards are composed of postcards from the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean that the Sexauer’s collected on their travels. There are over 400 postcards in this collection.

The Travels series consists of travel diaries hand-written by Cecile Sexauer. These diaries contain information about where the Sexauer's traveled and the customs, history and items of interest of these places. Some of the places the Sexauer's traveled to Europe, Canada, and Japan. Also included is a souvenir book of the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship.
