The Mary O’Neill Papers are composed of course material, college course notes, files related to her work with AmericaView, South DakotaView, Upper Midwest Aerospace Consortium, and South Dakota State University. Also included is material related to the many research projects related to geospatial technologies, remote sensing, geographic information systems, and global positioning systems.

This collection encompasses a wide range of materials documenting various aspects of Dr. Brandt's academic and professional activities. The collection is composed of a small amount of material collected by Col. Dwight L. Adams. The collection is comprised of various documents and materials that reflect events in Adams' life. It includes Adams' funeral program, a memo to President Hilton M. Briggs recommending Adams as the Army ROTC Commander, and information about the Omar Bradley Award for notable military achievements. Additionally, the collection features records of his political activities, a Professor Emeritus certificate from the South Dakota Board of Regents, and an account of South Dakota's World War II casualties.

This collection is mainly composed of material collected by Janet Stofferan while employed by the Simplicity Pattern Company. The material give researchers a look at the day-to-day workings of field staff traveling for the company. Included is correspondence, promotional materials, newspaper clippings, information regarding insurance, travel policies, routing and payments, schedules and promotions for stylists in the fashion promotion department.

Researchers will also find a small amount of material related to Adaline Snellman Hsia, a history of home economics at South Dakota State University, course syllabi from the 1960s, and material for judges at the Little International Agricultural Exposition at South Dakota State University.

Dr. Granholm’s papers span his long career at South Dakota State University as well as his interactions with the University of Winnipeg in Canada and Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. He took many detailed notes of his daily activities, events attended, and notes on book he read and conferences he attended. Included is correspondence, programs, articles, clippings, notes, and photographs.

NOTEBOOKS
The notebooks are composed of professional diaries, calendars, and notes. Each notebook was assigned a number by the donor and have a table of contents with page numbers in the front. Granholm recorded notes on events he attended or participated in, notes on books he read, and may contain inclusions, such as, programs, articles, and clippings.

CONFERENCES
This series consists of files on conferences which Granholm attended or participated in. Conferences programs, proceedings, schedules, and session notes.

CORRESPONDENCE
This series consists of both letters and emails. The material is arranged both chronologically and alphabetically.

COURSE MATERIAL
Material in this series is composed of files used in courses taught by Granholm. Courses taught include Global Studies, Honors courses, Biology courses, Botany, and Zoology. The bulk of the material is from Bioethics and Global Studies I and II. Also included are files related to an Honor Colloquium on a variety of different topics.

GLOBAL STUDIES
This series consists of files related to the Global Studies Program which Granholm headed. Included is background material on the program, correspondence, conference material, strategic plan for the program, internships, and majors

The grants material is composed of files related to research grants awarded to Granholm.

The project series is composed of other projects Granholm worked on. Included is material related to the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, a Coteau des Prairies book, and a project related to community in Clear Lake, South Dakota, a collaborative effort that included several SDSU faculty.

This collection is composed mainly of material related to the Conference on American Indian History and Culture and research related to the Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern Railroad Corporation in relation to railroad safety in Brookings, South Dakota.

This collection centers on Dr. Gibbons’ research into developing fuels and chemicals from biomass as sustainable replacements for petroleum-based products. It includes extensive materials documenting the feasibility, economics, and technology of ethanol production using agricultural feedstocks such as fodder beets, corn, and sweet sorghum. The bulk of the collection comprises article reprints, manuscripts, correspondence, and other materials related to scholarly articles submitted by Dr. Gibbons to academic journals.

The collection also contains draft manuscripts of Dr. Gibbons’ M.S. thesis and Ph.D. dissertation, which delve into the technological and economic aspects of ethanol production and its byproducts. Composed of materials related to her tenure at Dean of the College of Nursing at South Dakota State University. Included are reports, correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications, presentations, notes, writings, and photographs.

The collection consists mostly of the retirement book created by the SDSU library staff for Alfred G. Trump's retirement party on June 5, 1972, in Brookings. The book includes numerous letters, one telegram, several news clippings, as well as 27 color photographs of the party. It also includes two programs from the retirement party with menu. The papers also contain a certificate of recognition from the Mountain Plains Library Association, two plaques presented to Trump as token of appreciation for his commitment to South Dakota State University, and a certificate of completion from the University of Denver's Annual Institute of Archival Administration. There is also the Proclamation of Anne Trump Day (April 5, 1981) presented to Anne Trump by the Brookings City Commission.

Material relating to Jim Marking's career in coaching basketball as collected by him. Includes some instructional materials and basketball handouts, notes, notebooks of plays, record forms, and game programs, etc. Also includes press clippings regarding his retirement in 1974 and numerous congratulatory letters and cards for both his retirement and for his induction into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.

The collection is comprised largely of materials related to the poultry coursework of Phillip E Plumart, both as a graduate student and as a faculty member. It also includes a copy of his Master's Thesis.

This collection presents a comprehensive overview of James K. Lewis’s studies and projects conducted at various field stations, including Cottonwood Range and Antelope Range field stations, as well as the Badlands of South Dakota. The primary focus is on range management, forage production, and utilization and cover a broad spectrum of topics, including cattle weights, clip plot data analysis, soil moisture samples, and utilization studies, reflecting extensive data collection over several years. The collection also highlights interactions with prominent organizations like the American Grassland Council and the American Society of Range Management, indicating collaborative efforts and regional projects. The material covers a diverse range of studies, projects, and course materials related to range management. These include aerial photographs, ecological grassland studies, tool calibration, and extensive field data collection. This collection includes printouts of 2001 emails from Geoffrey and Sue Grant to friends in USA, written while they were in Kunming, China, and recounting their experiences and views of life in Kunming and at Yunnan University. It also includes a CD-ROM with Hundreds of pictures, Kunming, Beijing and Tibet, and the draft introduction (by Ronald J. Troyer of Drake University) to what would become the book Social Control in the People's Republic of China (1989), which is in Box 2, File 28. One folder includes materials relating to the US and SD Departments of Transportation and to SD LTAP (Local Transportation Assistance Program).

Also included are printed materials relating to the Eisenhower Foundation sponsored trips to China, including correspondence, briefing package, journals, reports, descriptions of specific daily visits, detailing important local officials, participants, as well as interpreters, etc. The majority are dated 1987, but there is one each from 1983 and 1984. The two from 1988 and later include SDSU's China Exchange Program and the book, Social Control in the People's Republic of China (1989) with a chapter by Dr. Grant, The Family and Social Control: Traditional and Modern. Finally research will find approximately 49 oversize 19 in. x 13 in. color photographs of daily life in China (all that had labels stated 2001 Kunming).

The Robert T. Wagner papers span his career from 1971 until his retirement in 1997. The records are composed of materials related to all aspects of his career at South Dakota State University. Also included is a small amount of material related to his service as Vice President at Dakota State College.

Files related to his academic teaching as a professor of Rural Sociology at SDSU are composed of correspondence, calendars, programs related to speaking engagements, and greeting cards of thanks and birthday wishes. A minimal amount of material is related to the courses he taught.

The Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at SDSU records are composed of calendars, correspondence, clippings, newsletters, greeting cards, photographs, and certificates awarded to Wagner. A small amount of materials related to teaching can be found in these files as he still taught some classes during this time.

Records related to his presidency at SDSU make up the largest portion of this collection. These files are composed of correspondence, clippings, calendars, certificates, reports, newsletters, evaluations, and greeting cards. At the end of this material researchers will find material related to his retirement.

Jay Dirksen was the Track and Field and Cross Country coach at South Dakota State University from 1969 to 1977. The collection consists mainly of Dirksen's files on S.D.S.U. athletes coached by him. The file include record sheets of training programs, correspondence, clippings, photographs, and other data related to the running career of each athlete. Also included are files related to Dirksen's research on cross country running.

The collection contains documents relating to the arrangements made for the Cuba trip and the political implications that surrounded the trip. Correspondence between David Martin and Senator George McGovern detail the breadth of such an undertaking. In addition, a post trip overview, numerous newspaper clippings, photographs, and radio excerpts are included in the collection.

The collection contains numerous of articles written by Wahlstrom, well as speeches and talks given by Wahlstrom relating to his research regarding the nutrition of swine. These topics include selenium poisoning, protein supplements, vitamins, and other dietary issues.

The collection is primarily composed of photographs collected by Billow, as well as awards, writings, correspondence, and her family’s genealogical documents and photographs. Papers and photographs relating to her role planning and organizing the 2000 and 2001 South Dakota Tours for new faculty at SDSU are also included. The scrapbook contains family genealogical documents such as birth, confirmation, and marriage documents, as well as Dr. Billow’s original art including watercolors, ink drawings, and sketches.

This collection is composed mainly of materials related to the Promotional Techniques for Engineers class which Benton Lee developed with Dean of Engineering Ernest Buckley in 1987. Material consists of general files for the class including lecture notes, class notebooks, and audio-visual material. Also included are personal files from 1992-2010 and cover Benton Lee's years as a graduate assistant for the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium and diversity coordinator for the College of Engineering.

Promotional Techniques for Engineers Class

In 1987, Dean of Engineering, Ernest Buckley and Mary Jo Benton Lee developed the Promotional Techniques for Engineers course. The concept was to teach journalism skills to engineering students and then ask them to promote major university-wide and state-wide events with their newly acquired skills. The ten students each year, who were hand-picked for this experience, all became student leaders.

Between 1987 and 1992, the students were routinely given budgets of $20,000 to use for the promotion of major events that drew speakers and participants from around the country. These events, all sponsored by the College of Engineering, included an Impact '87 Trade Fair, a Making Connections ethics seminar, and an Expanding Horizons Together entrepreneurship workshop.
The Promotional Techniques for Engineers Class series is composed of general files, class lecture notes, class notebooks on promotional campaigns, and audio-visual material. An item of note is the proceedings from the American Society of Engineering Education conference which includes a paper that explains the promotional techniques class in detail (page 1-8).

Class Projects

The Class Projects series is composed of promotional campaign material for various projects that the class worked on. Included are files on the Entrepreneurs' Workshop (Expanding Horizons Together - A Seminar on Entrepreneurship Opportunities), the Impact '87 Trade Fair, and the Seminar on Ethics (Making Connections - A Seminar on Ethics in a Technological Society). Included are promotional campaign reports which details the promotional techniques the class used for each project.

Personal Files

The Personal Files series is composed of other College of Engineering material that Benton Lee collected during her tenure. Included are files of the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium while she was a graduate assistant (1992-1998) during the time when South Dakota's tribal colleges were incorporated into the Consortium. Also included are files while she served as the Diversity Coordinator for the College of Engineering (1998-2010). Benton Lee took this position after she completed her Ph.D. in Sociology in 1998.

Flandreau Indian School Success Academy

South Dakota State University-Flandreau Indian School Success Academy is an early and intensive college preparatory program for American Indian high school students. This material includes reports and a history of the Flandreau Indian School.

In the course of his research over the last ten years, Associate Professor Matthew Cecil has used the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act to collect the J. Edgar Hoover-era FBI files of hundreds of prominent journalists. In all, Cecil has collected nearly 90,000 pages of FBI information. The files have provided the raw material for several scholarly publications and Cecil has several more, along with a book project, in the works.

The folders consist of photocopied files provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the request of Dr. Cecil. The documents were reviewed under the Freedom on Information/Privacy Acts, Title 5, United Stated Code, Section 552/552a by the FBI. Deletions were made to protect information which was exempt from disclosure. A deleted page information sheet was inserted in the file to indicate where pages were withheld. These sheets will be found in the folders.

Most of the material in the folders is made up of correspondence and clippings from newspapers and tearsheets from magazines and other publications. Researchers will also find case reports, FBI teletype (a message sent and received via a teleprinter-character printer connected to a telegraph that operates like a typewriter), routing slips, memoranda, telegrams, surveillance reports, news releases, interviews, essays, investigations, and typescripts.

While the strength of this collection lies in journalism and the J. Edgar Hoover era of the FBI, the topics of the collection covers a wide variety of subjects, from Communism and McCarthyism to organized crime, kidnapping, death threats, and the Kennedy Assassination and smear campaigns.

Some photocopies provided by the FBI are difficult to read. When this occurred, a sheet was inserted in the file that states:

"The best copy obtainable is included in the reproduction of these documents. Pages included that are blurred, lights, or otherwise difficult to read are the result of the condition of the original document. No better copy can be reproduced."

Some of the material received were water damaged. While no mold is present, the papers are warped and wrinkled. They are dry but may become brittle over time. These folders have been marked as "water damaged." The Archives reserves the right to refuse photocopy requests if these materials become too fragile or may be damaged by the photocopying process.

This collection is composed of material collected by J.P. Hendrickson in his work with the South Dakota Constitutional Revision Commission and the writing of the Home Rule Charter for Brookings, South Dakota in 1996. Folders contain reports, commission documents, minutes, correspondence, material relating to constitutional amendments, and notes.

This collection is composed of the papers of Robert V. Burns. The bulk of the collection is related to the NAFTA Conference arranged by Dr. Burns in 2000, the South Dakota Executive Branch reorganization, and material associated with his involvement as a commissioner on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (W.I.C.H.E.).

The NAFTA Conference material deals with the Canadian/United States Agricultural Trade Issues Emerging form NAFTA conference. Included is correspondence with participants, and government officials, publications, publicity, talking points, conference proceedings, and a copy of South Dakota governor William Janklow's keynote speech. The South Dakota Executive Branch Reorganization includes material associated with the Citizen's Commission on Executive Reorganization on which Dr. Burns served. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is composed meeting agenda books and publications of the commission.

Also included are minutes, agenda and correspondence associated with the various committees and commissions on which Burns served, such as the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, the Constitutional Revision Commission, files pertaining to railroad safety in Brookings, South Dakota, judicial elections, and a file pertaining to his State Representative campaign in 1980.

This collection is composed of reports on experiments conducted at the Big Stone Power Plant, collected material, files related to his consulting work with Dorand Engineering Services, personal material consisting of correspondence, class lectures, research, community involvement, and publications.

This collection is composed of appointment books, correspondence, clippings, certificates, biographical material, photographs, material published by Dr. Hogan, and material collected by Dr. Hogan in his research.

This collection is composed of material related to activities in which Evans was involved in during his career, newspaper clippings of articles featuring Evans, reviews of books and poetry written by Evans, material collected and gathered by Evans over the course of his trips to China and the writings the occurred as a result of these trips, publications, poems and books authored or co-authored by Evans and published, Evans works as they appeared in anthologies, textbooks and other publications, reviews of Evans works as reviewed by his peers, and manuscripts of poems, essays, writings and talks.

Included are files related to his work as Poet Laureate of South Dakota, articles related to his career as a writer, correspondence, diaries, research, copies of published books, clippings, journals, and manuscripts of early versions of Evans works that include notations by the author.

This collection is composed of collected materials presumably used for research, correspondence and writing and miscellaneous materials.

The collected material is composed of numerous pamphlets, newspapers and clippings, an 1862 book of poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, material of the Socialist Party in the United States, and a file of research on Steven Truscott, a man who was convicted of murder in Ontario, Canada but may have been wrongly accused.

The general papers include correspondence, some notes and an exam from some of Sewrey's history courses, miscellaneous items and photographs. The miscellaneous items include a map showing lakes, railways, wagon roads, hotels and other points of interest of the Lake District in the vicinity of Alexandria, Minnesota.

The manuscripts cover several topics but the main scope of this material is of anti-Catholicism and frontier Minnesota. Included in the manuscripts is a draft of Sewrey's master's thesis titled The Protestant Minister in Frontier Minnesota.

The published works also covers several topics but the main scope of this material is anti-Catholicism and Communism. Included in this material are two transcripts of a radio program titled Professor's Forum that was broadcast from the South Dakota State College radio station.

This collection is composed of materials from a trip made by Musson to Somalia, East Africa in 1954. Included are scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, slides, notes, correspondence, some publications and articles about Somalia, maps, and trip preparation items.

The scrapbooks consist of pictures taken while in Somalia. Included are Musson's translations of the Italian descriptions that are written on the back of most of the pictures. The photographs, negatives and slides consist of more pictures of Somalia but do not include any description of each image.

The notes consist of writings made by Musson while in Somalia. The correspondence consists mainly of communications with the Foreign Operations Administration in preparation for Musson's trip. The publications and articles include items about Somalia that Musson probably read in preparation for his trip. The trip preparations include information about customs in Somalia, immunizations for travel abroad, and some paper work that includes an investigation form for security clearance that details some biographical information about Musson. Also included are a few maps of Somalia that show some of the places that Musson visited.

This collection is composed of an unedited manuscript for Kramer's book, A History of South Dakota State University 1884-1975. This manuscript was reduced for publication so there may be some material available that is not found in the book. Also included are biographies complied by Kramer of South Dakota State University presidents dating from 1884 to 1975.

This collection is composed of material Harding collected while researching the history of South Dakota State University. Much of the material is from the works of Robert F. Kerr and William H. Powers, and it appears that Harding used their notes while compiling his own. Also included are many notes from newspapers, which may prove helpful to anyone studying the earliest days of the University. Also included in this material are Harding's Master's thesis and some other varied writings.

The Aggie News was a newspaper published quarterly by the State Alumni Association of the School of Agriculture. The material in this collection is not a complete run of this newspaper.

The recruitment circulars were sent out by the principal of the School of Agriculture. These circular contain facts about the school and activities available to students. Some may contain photographs of the early campus of South Dakota State University.

The bulletin contains information in detail relative to the different department and courses of instruction, entrance requirements, schedules of study, lists of instructors of the institution, its administration, equipment, organizations, publications, funds, students' expenses, scholarships, etc.

The Student research papers is an artificial collection, which consists of papers written by graduate degree candidates but are not considered to be theses or dissertations submitted for the completion of a degree. Material is added as it is unearthed if it is unique, unusual or illustrative. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information.

This collection is composed of papers produced by graduate degree candidates. Some are professionally bound, while others were spiral bound or placed in report folders. These research papers are not a thesis or dissertation submitted for the completion of a degree.

The South Dakota State University Ephemera collection is an artificial collection, which consists of ephemera related to South Dakota State University that does not fit in to the scope any other collections. Material is added as it is unearthed if it is unique, unusual or illustrative. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information.

Material is this collection includes, but is not limited to, menus, clippings, programs, bookmarks, invitations, and diplomas.

This collection is composed of pamphlets and flyers produced by the Reel Images Film Society.

Composed of departmental histories, written by a variety of departmental representatives during 1957-58. These narratives offer insight into the early history of the departments represented here. Unfortunately, not all South Dakota State University departments are represented in this collection.

The depth of the material varies greatly, as does the size. The Foreign Languages departmental history is in three parts and is divided into three file folders. The Animal Husbandry departmental history, on the other hand, consists only of one sheet of paper. While by no means complete, this collection offers a nice accompaniment to the departmental histories written during the Centennial year of the college, and to the published histories of the college.

This is an artificial collection that consists of 95 athletic and general scrapbooks, which contain newspaper clippings from newspapers and publications from across the state of South Dakota. The athletic scrapbooks include clippings from all sports featured at South Dakota State University from 1947 to 1967. The general scrapbooks cover a wide range of topics; from articles featuring athletics, agriculture and research conducted on campus to articles written about and by college presidents and faculty members. The clippings inside of the scrapbooks are arranged by year and not topic.

This collection is composed of the original ledger of minutes of the Board of Regents for the Dakota Agricultural College from 1884-1895. Included in the minutes is information that details the organization of the college from the selection of the first president to the formation of committees to oversee the finances, course of study, farm, buildings and college lands, admission requirements, and budgets of the college. Some of the later minutes include reports from the president of the college. A notation appears at the end of the ledger indicating a second volume, which we do not have in our custody and its whereabouts is unknown. The second item in the collection is a petition, signed by many students of Dakota Agricultural College. It requests that the English/History professor be removed from his post.

This is an artificial collection of student essays written between 1890 and 1901. The essays do not appear to be theses, nor do they appear to be only senior class essays. Some authors appear more than once, and none appear to be graduate students. While all of the essays have an author and title, many include only the graduating class of the author, not the date the essay was written.

The physical makeup of the essays is interesting. Most of the essays are around 20 pages in length, indicating work of some depth. A few are bound, while others are sewn together and some are stapled. Some are handwritten, but most are typewritten. Many of them have ribbons or other decoration on the cover or holding the piece together. Illustrations found in them are hand drawn, sometimes in great detail.

The essays themselves are of some interest, although their informational content is most likely dated. The topics covered by the essays are quite diverse, ranging from bread to bridge construction. A large number of the essays seem to relate to the study of the English language, the mechanical arts, with agriculture, engineering and woodcarving. Some other topics include entomology, molds, music and sewing.

This collection is composed of materials produced and collection by the 125th Anniversary Planning Committee. Folders include minutes, clippings, event invitations and programs, publications, photographs, audio-visual material, departmental histories, and memorabilia.

The Cooperative Extension Service celebration material is composed of material from several South Dakota County Extension offices and related what each county did to celebrate the 125th anniversary of South Dakota State University. Folders may contain photographs, clippings and other material documenting the event.

The audio-visual material is composed of master and finished product video footage in the form of videos and DVDs for the 125th anniversary celebration projects. Included with the material are taped interviews of prominent individuals, such as United States Senators and Representatives. Also included are some scripts.

Colleges, departments and faculty were to submit recommendations for a summary of important dates, events and people in the history of South Dakota State University. They were asked for focus on accomplishments since 1964 when the institution was granted university status. These are found in the material marked as Survey of Accomplishments.

Other material of interest includes a resolution proposed by the South Dakota Legislative Assembly, and memorabilia associated with the celebration, such as a replica of the Coughlin Campanile that includes a piece limestone from the original structure.

This collection is composed of committee files produced for or in conjunction with the Centennial Celebration of South Dakota State University held in 1981. The collection is made up of general office and administrative files with some memorabilia.

The office files include budgets, correspondence, committee minutes and the files from each sub-committee. The budgets material consists mainly of the accounting used to put on the centennial celebration and to run an office devoted to such an event. The sub-committees files consist mainly of simple reports on the actions of various departments and various committees over the year. The notable exception to this is the calendar committee, which demonstrated some of the scheduling programs of such a huge event. The most useful files include the minutes of the Steering Committee and the correspondence files, as they reflect the inner workings of the group and the magnitude of such an event. Much attention is given throughout this material to the appearance of and seminar honoring Theodore Schultz, SDSU graduate and Nobel Prize winner.

The administrative files include material that was produced for or in conjunction with the Centennial Celebration. Included in this file are the finished calendars, lists of speakers, publications association with the centennial, and congratulatory letters from land grant colleges, alumni, dignitaries and South Dakota organizations. Also included are programs and flyers from various centennial events. The transcripts and audio cassettes of the commencement addresses are also included.

The memorabilia includes examples of some the souvenirs that were produced during the centennial. Included are two paperweights, one is bronze and housed in a redwood box with blue velvet lining, and one is marble with a cork bottom, a brass insignia with clear acrylic covering an insignia which has a dark blue background and gold lettering. Also included is a light blue coaster with gold lettering, a tan button with dark brown lettering, and an acrylic box of gummed gold SDSU notarial seals and blue and yellow ribbons approximately one inch long.

This is an artificial collection composed of random committee materials such as pamphlets, reports, correspondence and minutes. Material is added as it is unearthed. No attempt is made to systematically collect this information.

The Civilization Committee material is composed of a pamphlet titled "Dialogues in Higher Education: A Series of Discussions on the Process of Thought." This series was developed from discussions by the Civilization Committee. The pamphlet describes the speaker for the series, and lists the dates, times and topic for each.

The Classification Committee is composed of a ledger of minutes between 1900 and 1914. This committee was known as the Ad. (Admissions?) and Cr. (Credit?) Committee. This committee appears to have dealt with credit hour issues.

The Committee on Radio Broadcasting material is composed of a report of the Committee on Radio Broadcasting. The main subject of the report is a plan devised by the committee in order that the radio broadcasting service of South Dakota State College be effective in serving the people of South Dakota.

The Computer Users Advisory Council material is composed of correspondence circulated by the Computer Users Advisory Council. The main subject of the correspondence is answering questions concerning computer software copyrights.

The Curriculum and Veterans Enrollment material is composed of correspondence, proclamations in support of veteran's claims for free tuition, and other miscellaneous documents related to veterans enrollment.

The Faculty Committee on Air Transport material is composed of a report written by the committee on air transport. The mission of the committee was to study the future impact of air transportation on college business and to make recommendations for action by the college. This report reflects the recommendations of the committee to the college.

The Faculty Workshop Committee material is composed of minutes of a meeting held in May of 1957. The main subject of the minutes is examinations for graduating seniors, the date of fall and winter graduation, and an appointment of a committee to prepare and make available a course for communication skills for college students.

The High School Contact Committee material is composed of a report to faculty and extension personnel. This report covers completed work, work in progress, and projected plans for High School recruitment as of February 1, 1952. An explanation of the action taken or to be taken, or matters still under consideration and study by the committee follow each project.

The ROTC Inspection and Military Field Day Committee material is composed of minutes of a meeting held to arrange the schedule of ROTC Inspection and Military Field Day. The main subject of the meeting was excusing students from class for the exercises while trying not to cause interruption of classes.

The Rules and Regulations Committee material is composed of minutes of meetings held in July 1931. The main subject of the meetings was the publishing of the official college rules in one publication. This material is arranged chronologically.

This collection is composed of class schedules, student handbooks, and articles.

This collection is composed of summer session report written by the Director of the Summer School. These reports summarize the activities of the summer session at South Dakota State University from 1957-1972. These reports include a statement of policies regarding the operation and function of the summer session.

The collection is arranged by item type. Information on Sigma Xi is minimal, consisting of some proposals and planning notes. The information put out by SDSU for the Science Fair is quite comprehensive, including programs and brochures from a number of years, as are the budgets and expense records. There is a good amount of material relating to Science Fair winners and their projects, though the dates of this information are quite random. The publications for ISEF are also quite comprehensive, including rule books, participant forms, programs, touring and housing information, and books of abstracts of participant research.

This collection is composed of scrapbooks, photographs, citations, and publications related to Eminent Farmers and Homemakers.

The Scrapbooks are composed of three scrapbooks of the Eminent Farmers and Homemakers. Scrapbook I covers the years 1928-1969 and includes a report of an annual business meeting, newsletters, newspaper clippings of eminent farmers and homemakers (mainly obituaries), correspondence, programs and memorabilia. Scrapbook II is titled "Sands of Time" and covers the years 1952-1982. This scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, photographs, minutes from annual meetings for the years 1965-1982, and a necrology report for 1972-82 that lists deaths of eminent farmer and homemakers and notes the year that they were honored. Scrapbook III is titled "History, 1972-1988". This scrapbook includes biographies of eminent farmer and homemakers, programs from annual meetings and notes any deaths that occurred during the year. Also included is a mailing list of Master Farmer Homemakers for 1972-1988.

The Honoree photographs are composed of photographs of Eminent Farmer and Homemakers for the years 1927-1991. These photographs formerly hung on the Eminent Farmer and Homemaker Wall of Fame in Agricultural Hall on the South Dakota State University Campus. Most of the photographs are approximately 14.5 inches x 18 inches in size. Due to the manner in which these photographs were displayed, many were damaged by UV rays. On the mat of each photograph was a caption that included the name, year honored, and county or town of the Eminent Farmer of Homemaker. The Eminent Farmer photographs also included their occupation or area of interest in the caption. The Eminent Homemaker photograph captions only stated that each was an Eminent Homemaker and most do not include the woman's first name, only the name of their spouse preceded by Mrs. (i.e. Mrs. John Doe). This seemed to remain the practice until the late 1980's.

Mats and frames that housed the Honoree Photographs were removed for preservation purposes. Care was taken in the removal of the mats, however some tape and dried glue residue still remains. Photographs and negatives were removed to the Photograph Archives for preservation and access purposes. The negatives that accompany these photographs are mainly 4 inches x 5 inches in size and cover the years 1960-1991. The negatives were produced after the photographs were removed from Agricultural Hall and before the mats were removed. The caption that was included on the mat of each photograph appears in these negatives. This material is arranged chronologically.

The Honoree citations are composed of citations of Eminent Farmers and Homemakers. Each citation includes biographical information about the farmer or homemaker, information about how each manages their farm or household, and notes other awards or offices held. Some citations include a transcript of the acceptance speech given by the farmer or homemaker at the recognition banquet. The earlier citations generally include stories of how their families came to homestead in Dakota Territory and include accounts of dealing with blizzards and Indians. This material is arranged alphabetically.

Also included are programs published for the Eminent Farmers and Homemakers banquet held annually to recognize that year's recipients of the award.

Also included is a rough draft of an official complaint of discrimination at South Dakota State University filed with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and notification of results of the investigation.

This collection is composed of a history, report of a survey, and a scrapbook related to the Army Administration School on the campus of South Dakota State College during World War II. Also included is a small amount of material related to the Army Specialized Training Program. The history of the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College includes a list of names of officers and what is believed to be participants. The report details buildings and property furnished to the Army Administration School by South Dakota State College. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, graduation programs and photographs relating to the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College. The miscellaneous material includes a program for graduation exercises of the second class of the school held in August 1943, a note card listing the number of army men on campus, and a license certificate for a pure bred stallion recorded in April 1913. The relationship of this certificate to the Army Administration School is unknown.

This collection is composed of meeting packets that were distributed to members of the council at each meeting. Included in these packets are membership lists, statistics, departmental reports, departmental publications, resolutions passed at previous meetings, presentations made, and leaflets stating the results from annual meetings. Also included is a 1969 newsletter stating the results from the annual meeting of that year.

This collection consists of meeting minutes and limited correspondence from the Administrative Council and its predecessor, the Council of Deans. The minutes are primarily procedural, documenting actions and decisions. They provide insight into college operations, including administrative matters and disciplinary actions. The small correspondence file mainly addresses student readmission decisions and brief notes on meeting discussions. Overall, the material offers a glimpse into the administrative concerns and decision-making processes of the institution.

This collection is composed mainly of the minutes from the meetings and some correspondence of the Publications Council. The minutes list members present and absent at each meeting and include letters of applications for editor and manager positions for the Jackrabbit and the Collegian. Also included are letters of recommendations to the Board of Control, budget requests and financial statements, editorials and stories submitted for publication in the Collegian, bids on printing, paper, engravings and covers for the Jackrabbit, and newspaper clippings from the Collegian.

The Faculty Round Table Records sub-group consists of the by-laws and minutes from the first meeting, and tentative rules governing the Faculty Round Table. The by-laws are bound in a ledger and are hand-written. The by-laws state the name of the group, its aim, membership, officers, and organization of meetings. Also included in the ledger are the minutes from the first meeting of the group. The tentative rules governing the Faculty Round Table are the same as the by-laws in the exception that they are typewritten.

This collection is composed of the minutes from faculty meetings held at South Dakota State University from its inception up through the 1980's. These files are fairly complete; with large gaps being noted from fall 1898-Spring 1903 and June 1907-March 1918. Very few other minutes are missing, however. Included with some of the files are materials related to topics being discussed at the meetings, such as a petition by a student group, or a brochure from a campus event. For the most part, the contents of the minutes are fairly dry and businesslike, although some gems might be discovered with careful attention.

The Faculty Association Records are composed of constitution, minutes and correspondence files. Most of the latter consists entirely of correspondence from or to the acting head of the association. Also included are committee records series spans the years 1946-1972, with the bulk of material from 1952-1960. Included are committee assignments and studies completed by various committees. Although the names of the individual committees changed over time, their function remained essentially the same. Committees were formed around the topics of tenure, promotion and rank, salary, insurance, retirement, and other such topics.

This collection is composed of the records of the Faculty Women's Club from the beginnings of the club in 1917 to the late 1990's when the club evolved into the SDSU Club. Material found in the collection consists mainly of minutes, president's reports, constitutions, newsletters, directories, programs, photographs, clippings and financial records, including a loan fund ledger and scholarship information. Also included is material on faculty receptions, teas, and luncheons, material on the club's involvement with the Memorial Art Center, and several histories of the club. A history of the auxiliary club of the Newcomers Club is also included, along with minutes of their meetings.

In 1993, the Faculty Women's Club celebrated its 75th anniversary and put on a style show that gave a history of the club since its establishment. A script and a video recording of the event are included here.

Much of the planning material for this event seems to be lost, however.

Included are files regarding administration, the Athletics Committee, publications, the Women's Recreation Association, and files related to specific sports (e.g. baseball, men's and women's basketball, cross country, football, rodeo, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling).

The administrative material consists of material dealing with academic advising, development, compliance, equipment, facilities and operations, the Jackrabbit Sports Network, marketing and promotion, and the ticket office. Folders are composed of annual reports, programs, handbooks, brochures, photographs, mascot designs, newsletters, schedules. The series also contains banners, caps, t-shirts, and jerseys. The Athletics Committee consist of meeting minutes and budget files. Files regarding of the individual sports consist of media guides, clippings, record books, programs, brochures, fact books, and photographs. A large amount of cross country and track and field files are included and consist of results from meets and workouts and research. The publications series includes the Rabbit Report from 1978-2014 and The Bum from 1956 to 2017. These files are not complete as they are missing some issues.

The building files relate to the original construction of the building in 1969 as well as material dealing with the addition constructed in the 1990s. Included are specifications, plans, fundraising, correspondence and events connected with the addition construction, such as the groundbreaking, and the move in preparation for construction. The fundraising files consist of materials related to fundraising efforts in connection with the construction of the addition to the Art Museum. Included are Board of Trustees fundraising information, and material generated by the SDSU Foundation for the Visions for the Future campaign. The financial files are composed of budget files and accounting reports. Also included are year-end reports and inventories for the museum gift shop. Also included are accreditation materials, annual reports, materials related to collections; such as Harvey Dunn and Vera Way Marghab, materials related to events sponsored by the museum, the Jeannette Lusk Memorial Library, and the retirement tribute and reception for Joseph M. Stuart; the first director of the museum. Folders include correspondence, clippings, photographs, programs, and flyers. Publications include exhibition catalogues, materials mailed for promotion of events, brochures, pamphlets, and newsletters.

This exhibition records relate to exhibitions at the South Dakota Art Museum from its inception in 1970 to 1996. These records consist of catalogues, correspondence (to artists, galleries), shipping data, insurance policies, inventories, loan agreements, artist biographies, artwork Descriptions, instructions for handling and/or mounting the works, labels, publicity, clippings, and plans for exhibit cases. A large portion of this collection consists of photographed images of artwork for incoming exhibitions as well as gallery views of the complete exhibit in the museums galleries. Slides make up a large part of these images but photographs and negatives are also included.

The Board of Trustees records consist mainly of meetings minutes and files on individual board members. Folders containing the meeting minutes include agendas, minutes, correspondence, and other material related directly to meetings, such as publications and reports. The files on individual board members may include biographies, clippings, and correspondence. Also included are by-laws, orientation for board members, and board of director's committee files, such as the collection committee, membership committee, special events committee, and donor recognition committee. These files include committee minutes, correspondence and other material related to meetings.

The guild records are composed of records of the South Dakota Art Museum Guild. Folders include handbooks, by-laws, correspondence, membership lists, and guides for docents.

This collection is composed of administration records, minutes and agendas of the association and associated committees including the Board of Control, financial records and subject files. Folders may include constitutions, by-laws, correspondence, clippings, and reports.

This collection is composed of composed of mainly of material dealing with the organizing of the Honors College including are minutes, correspondence, notes, and proposals. Also included is material related to the Griffith Honors Forum Lecture, clippings, news releases, and other files related to the operation of the college.

An item of note is found in the Griffith Honors Forum Lecture folder. It is a copy of a lecture given by documentary film maker, Ken Burns, for the program in 2001.

This collection is composed of a small assortment of records from the Theta Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at South Dakota State University. Included is a handbook, a VHS video cassette, and files related to membership and banquets.

In addition to both local and national constitutions, by-laws, one-page histories, and publications, the collection contains decades of South Dakota Chapter reports to national, which include monthly meeting reports, semester membership reports, and initiate reports. It also holds local items: chartering correspondence, pledge manuals, new member manuals, songs, certificates, photographs (loose and in a scrapbook), individual member cards, and two banners.

This collection consists of club newsletters, photos from the annual awards banquets and gatherings, photos from club trips to Denver, Milwaukee, Omaha, Minneapolis, and Wyoming, photos from Hobo Day celebrations, and senior brochures chronicling the graduating club members.

The collection includes the constitutions, programs, yearly records of activities and financial records. In addition, there are membership lists, a VHS tape, chapter histories, reports, and materials related to the 25th anniversary of the chapter.

This collection consists of scrapbooks documenting the activities of the society. Due to their deteriorated condition, the scrapbooks were dismantled for preservation. Photocopies were made of most materials, while items in good condition were preserved.

In 1947, the society recognized excellence in journalism through newspaper awards, honoring publications for their achievements in reporting, community service, editorial writing, and layout design. Notable awards included superior recognition for Canova Herald in community service, Hot Springs Weekly Star in local public affairs reporting, and Madison Daily Leader in front-page makeup. Sioux Valley News received multiple distinctions, including superior rankings in local news and editorial writing. Other newspapers, such as Mobridge Tribune, Vermillion Plain Talk, and Wessington Spring Independent, were also commended for their contributions to journalism.

This series is composed of secretary's books, the constitution and bylaws for the society and a small booklet of prayer meeting topics. The secretary's books consist of the constitution and bylaws and amendments to them, membership lists, and minutes.

This series is composed of secretary's and treasurer's books, a handbook for members programs for lecture courses, programs for plays, the YMCA Entertainment Series, a student conference, and installation banquets.

The secretary's books consist of minutes from meetings, membership information, and included some loose material in the back (correspondence, notes, etc.).

This series is composed of mainly of minutes from meetings and the club constitution, which includes several revised copies. The minutes include roll call, pledges, business, and nomination and election of officers. Also included are some activities conducted by the Stakota Club, correspondence, and a list of the duties of the secretary from 1967-68.

This collection is composed of initiation procedures, a manual, and minutes for Company I, 6th Regiment of Scabbard and Blade. The manual includes a calendar of events that the society had to follow throughout the year, procedures for initiation of candidates, jewelry, miscellaneous contact of company officers with national headquarters, standard forms furnished by the executive officer without charge, and duties of company officers. The initiation procedures detail the purpose, scope, time of initiation, nominations, and the objectives and conduct of pledge week. The minutes list members of Scabbard and Blade, elected officers, and treasury reports. Included are discussions on scholarships, amendments to the constitution, military balls, and other events on campus that the society was involved in, such as Hobo Day and Spring Sing.
