Spiro Agnew (1918–1996) was a Republican politician who served as the 39th Vice President of the United States under Richard Nixon. Formerly the Baltimore County Executive and Governor of Maryland, he became known for his vocal criticism of political opponents and the media. On October 10, 1973, Agnew became the second vice president to resign from office, doing so after pleading no contest to a felony charge of tax evasion related to a bribery investigation.
