The movement gained traction with the formation of the Dakota Farmers’ Alliance in 1885, expanding rapidly across the region. The documents in this collection offer valuable historical context on the Alliance’s objectives, leadership, and strategies during a critical period of agrarian activism in South Dakota.

This collection is composed of the original ledger of minutes of the Board of Regents for the Dakota Agricultural College from 1884-1895. Included in the minutes is information that details the organization of the college from the selection of the first president to the formation of committees to oversee the finances, course of study, farm, buildings and college lands, admission requirements, and budgets of the college. Some of the later minutes include reports from the president of the college. A notation appears at the end of the ledger indicating a second volume, which we do not have in our custody and its whereabouts is unknown. The second item in the collection is a petition, signed by many students of Dakota Agricultural College. It requests that the English/History professor be removed from his post.

This is an artificial collection of student essays written between 1890 and 1901. The essays do not appear to be theses, nor do they appear to be only senior class essays. Some authors appear more than once, and none appear to be graduate students. While all of the essays have an author and title, many include only the graduating class of the author, not the date the essay was written.

The physical makeup of the essays is interesting. Most of the essays are around 20 pages in length, indicating work of some depth. A few are bound, while others are sewn together and some are stapled. Some are handwritten, but most are typewritten. Many of them have ribbons or other decoration on the cover or holding the piece together. Illustrations found in them are hand drawn, sometimes in great detail.

The essays themselves are of some interest, although their informational content is most likely dated. The topics covered by the essays are quite diverse, ranging from bread to bridge construction. A large number of the essays seem to relate to the study of the English language, the mechanical arts, with agriculture, engineering and woodcarving. Some other topics include entomology, molds, music and sewing.

The Faculty Round Table Records sub-group consists of the by-laws and minutes from the first meeting, and tentative rules governing the Faculty Round Table. The by-laws are bound in a ledger and are hand-written. The by-laws state the name of the group, its aim, membership, officers, and organization of meetings. Also included in the ledger are the minutes from the first meeting of the group. The tentative rules governing the Faculty Round Table are the same as the by-laws in the exception that they are typewritten.

This series is composed of secretary's books, the constitution and bylaws for the society and a small booklet of prayer meeting topics. The secretary's books consist of the constitution and bylaws and amendments to them, membership lists, and minutes.

This collection consists primary of the scrapbook "The Girl Graduate, Her Own Book" as completed by Loto Rollinstahl Underwood documenting her life in college. Topics include programs, social events and miscellaneous. Items in the scrapbook include invitations, class listings, programs, dance cards, commencement publications, and newspaper clippings. The scrapbook includes no photographs and very few drawings. Within the scrapbooks 176 numbered pages, there are very few written entries but many pasted and loosely interleaved items.

The collection consists of correspondence between Henry Langford Loucks and Richard F. Pettigrew from 1914 to 1916, primarily discussing political issues related to the progressive movement in early 20th-century America. Loucks' letters to Pettigrew span from November 1914 through July 1916, while Pettigrew’s responses cover a similar period. In addition to the correspondence, the collection includes undated photographs, editorials authored by Loucks, and a 1917 pamphlet titled Will the Farmer be the "Goat" Once More?, which addresses agricultural and economic concerns. The materials provide insight into the political discourse and reform efforts of the time.

The Donald D. Johnson Papers include a short narrative, originally composed around 1918, detailing the experiences of John P. (Johan Peter) Johnson, a Swedish immigrant and grandfather of the donor, between 1871 and 1879. The narrative was translated by Alma N. Lundin and read at the Benton Lutheran Church in South Dakota around 1918. The available version is a photocopy; the original was not included in the donation.

Also included is a publication titled The Quill, produced by students at Marion High School in Marion, South Dakota. A note accompanying the publication states that it was published by Donald D. Johnson in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Johnson of Hartford, South Dakota, who are presumed to be his parents.

This collection consists of a leather-bound scrapbook belonging to 2nd Lt. Ward B. Bates and contains 139 documents, seventy-two maps, 263 photographs, and eighty-one picture postcards. The photographs cover Bates' time in training at his various duty stations. Some of the photographs include Bates and other officers enjoying their time on liberty before heading to the battlefield. Battlefield images are those taken by Bates as well as the personal pictures of Major Joseph Mills Hansen who was the Chief Historian of the A.E.F. Some photographs depict those dead after an assault. Documents include an assortment of U.S. Service Club membership cards and also Officer Club membership cards. The scrapbook holds Bates' honorable discharge paper from the Army National Guard. There are also numerous copies of various orders passed down to the many officers of field artillery. All orders pertained to the movement of the newly commissioned officers, including Bates. Orders came down from the War Department and would give time and place of the new duty station. Bates traveled from Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. Other duty stations included Camp Logan of Houston, Texas and Camp Jackson of Columbia, South Carolina. General Order No. 23 in particular deals with Bates division once they reached Paris, France and how they were to go about setting up camp, care of personnel and supplies, and interaction with locals. There are also many newspaper clippings that document the events of World War I.

This collection consists of twelve black-and-white photographs taken between 1917 and 1922. These may have been collected by Einar Jentoft Anderson, who attended SDSU (then SDSC) for some of those years and was Editor-In-Chief of the 1922 Jack Rabbit. Many of the photographs in the collection were published in either the 1921 or 1922 Jack Rabbit.

This collection is composed ledgers for the Boarding Club. Included are records for expenses, board, labor and refunds for students who were members of the club.

The Forum and Ethical Culture Club Records documents the activities and history of the Ethical Culture Club and its successor, The Forum, spanning the early 20th century, primarily from 1908 to 1928. It includes the club's constitution, correspondence, programs, and program notes from 1919–1928. Also featured are a 1923 historical account of The Forum, records of Ethical Culture Club meetings (1908–1910), and minutes from The Forum meetings (1919–1928). These materials offer valuable insight into the discussions, values, and intellectual pursuits of these organizations, reflecting their evolution and impact on the community.

This collection is composed of material generated by the School of Agriculture. Folders contain newspapers, programs, bulletins and recruitment circulars.

The Aggie News was a newspaper published quarterly by the State Alumni Association of the School of Agriculture. It contained news stories about students, organizations, and announcements of interest to School of Agriculture students and faculty. The material in this collection is not a complete run of this newspaper.

The recruitment circulars were sent out by the principal of the School of Agriculture. These circular contain facts about the school and activities available to students. Some may contain photographs of the early campus of South Dakota State University.

The bulletin contains information in detail relative to the different department and courses of instruction, entrance requirements, schedules of study, lists of instructors of the institution, its administration, equipment, organizations, publications, funds, students' expenses, scholarships, etc.

This collection is composed of correspondence, ledgers from the beginnings of the society that include the constitution of the society and minutes from meetings and programs from plays presented by the society. Found inside the back of the ledger from 1903-1931 were loose papers that include clippings, notes, membership information, reports and an orations from a 1916 contest on Booker Washington.

This series is composed of secretary's and treasurer's books, a handbook for members programs for lecture courses, programs for plays, the YMCA Entertainment Series, a student conference, and installation banquets.

The secretary's books consist of minutes from meetings, membership information, and included some loose material in the back (correspondence, notes, etc.).

This collection is composed of one file folder of correspondence between W. Sigurd Opdahl and his wife, Goldie Opdahl while W. Sigurd worked at an airplane factory in California during World War II. It details his journey to Long Beach, California and his work in the airplane factory. She writes about the daily activities in Hayti, S.D. Also included is a letter from his daughter Lou Ellen Johnson. The letters are photocopies of the originals.

This collection is composed of a history, report of a survey, and a scrapbook related to the Army Administration School on the campus of South Dakota State College during World War II. Also included is a small amount of material related to the Army Specialized Training Program. The history of the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College includes a list of names of officers and what is believed to be participants. The report details buildings and property furnished to the Army Administration School by South Dakota State College. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, graduation programs and photographs relating to the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College. The miscellaneous material includes a program for graduation exercises of the second class of the school held in August 1943, a note card listing the number of army men on campus, and a license certificate for a pure bred stallion recorded in April 1913. The relationship of this certificate to the Army Administration School is unknown.

This ledger discovered on a table at a rummage sale in Mobridge, South Dakota. A librarian from Northern State University found it, purchased it, and gave it to Phil Mulvaney, Dean of Libraries at NSU, who forwarded the ledger to Dean Marquardt at South Dakota State University. Dean Marquardt transferred it to SDSU Archives and Special Collections in 2002.

The ledger was maintained by an unknown student at South Dakota State College during World War II. The ledger contains a detailed list of student expenses.

This collection consists of a notebook of Clark S. Thomas, a student at South Dakota State College from 1937 to 1941. The notebook records all of his personal expenses while attending college, as well as expenses while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. Entries in the notebook include meals, entertainment, income, and other expenses for clothes, school supplies, etc. Also included are receipts for tuition and fees for Thomas for 1937-1941.

This collection is composed mainly of plates, publications, reports, a small amount of correspondence, and photographs. The plates consist of frames, cover mast-heads, article mast-heads, frames for photographs, and other artwork used for the publication. A more detailed description of these plates is found in the container list. The publications are mainly specialty publications aimed at advertisers and marketers. The reports are surveys conducted on farmers, bankers, merchants.

An item of note is the contracting for a new cover file. This material contains several examples of other publication covers with critiques of what works and what does not. Also included in this material is three sample covers for the Dakota Farmer and correspondence between the contractor and the Dakota Farmer staff.

This collection is composed of material Harding collected while researching the history of South Dakota State University. Much of the material is from the works of Robert F. Kerr and William H. Powers, and it appears that Harding used their notes while compiling his own. Also included are many notes from newspapers, which may prove helpful to anyone studying the earliest days of the University. Also included in this material are Harding's Master's thesis and some other varied writings.

In this collection there are many samples of different sewing styles from the 1940’s. There is also a small notebook that contains recipes that was written by Grace during the 1940’s.

Consists of chapbooks of Graber's poetry and does not contain larger collections of verse, which may be found in the South Dakota Collection.

This collection is composed of a program from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers conference held at South Dakota State University in 1950 and invitations to banquets for retiring faculty members.

In this collection there are letters that were sent directly to George when he was president and other letters. There are also items that commemorate George for his work during his time at SDSU.

This collection is composed of correspondence, form letters, and minutes of meetings.

Composed of departmental histories, written by a variety of departmental representatives during 1957-58. These narratives offer insight into the early history of the departments represented here. Unfortunately, not all South Dakota State University departments are represented in this collection.

The depth of the material varies greatly, as does the size. The Foreign Languages departmental history is in three parts and is divided into three file folders. The Animal Husbandry departmental history, on the other hand, consists only of one sheet of paper. While by no means complete, this collection offers a nice accompaniment to the departmental histories written during the Centennial year of the college, and to the published histories of the college.

This collection consists of meeting minutes and limited correspondence from the Administrative Council and its predecessor, the Council of Deans. The minutes are primarily procedural, documenting actions and decisions. They provide insight into college operations, including administrative matters and disciplinary actions. The small correspondence file mainly addresses student readmission decisions and brief notes on meeting discussions. Overall, the material offers a glimpse into the administrative concerns and decision-making processes of the institution.

This collection is composed of materials from a trip made by Musson to Somalia, East Africa in 1954. Included are scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, slides, notes, correspondence, some publications and articles about Somalia, maps, and trip preparation items.

The scrapbooks consist of pictures taken while in Somalia. Included are Musson's translations of the Italian descriptions that are written on the back of most of the pictures. The photographs, negatives and slides consist of more pictures of Somalia but do not include any description of each image.

The notes consist of writings made by Musson while in Somalia. The correspondence consists mainly of communications with the Foreign Operations Administration in preparation for Musson's trip. The publications and articles include items about Somalia that Musson probably read in preparation for his trip. The trip preparations include information about customs in Somalia, immunizations for travel abroad, and some paper work that includes an investigation form for security clearance that details some biographical information about Musson. Also included are a few maps of Somalia that show some of the places that Musson visited.

The Faculty Housing Company records are composed primarily of meeting minutes (annual, special, and board of directors meetings), stock holder information, and letters written to stockholders from incorporation in 1952 to dissolution in 1963. The collection also includes advertisement brochures and signs of the company, correspondences with stockholders, floor plans of the corporation's property, and quarterly reports.

This collection is composed of certificates for tuition and records of tuition waived for war veterans.

The certificates for tuition are for veterans of World War I and state the amount due for tuition. These certify that a veteran was discharged honorably from the service and performed services outside the borders of the state of South Dakota during the period of the world war and was at that time a legal resident of the state. They also stated that the veteran had attended and pursued a course of instruction at South Dakota State College [SDSC] without the payment of tuition and there is now due a sum of money.

The records of tuition waived consist of 575 cards that note the period for which a veteran attended courses at SDSC and the amount of tuition paid. These state the name and address of the veteran, the date and location he entered the service, his discharge date and evidence of the discharge, the date he entered college and whether or not he was under the Veterans Administration, and finally whether he continued after his entitlement expired.

This collection consists of addresses delivered by Sigurd Anderson during his tenure as Federal Trade Commissioner (1957–1964), along with speeches and documents of interest to him from his time as Governor of South Dakota (1951–1955). The FTC addresses, given to various national organizations, provide insight into Anderson’s role in federal regulatory affairs and economic policy. Also included is his inaugural address to the 33rd South Dakota Legislature (1953), reflecting his gubernatorial priorities.

The collection also contains speeches from the early to mid-1950s on topics relevant to Anderson’s administration, such as infrastructure, economic development, and public policy. Notable items include an address by Colonel Thomas J. Hayes III on the Corps of Engineers' contributions to South Dakota (1954) and discussions from the Missouri Basin Survey Commission (1952).

Additionally, appropriations records (1951–1955) document South Dakota’s budgetary decisions during Anderson’s governorship. A biographical account, Sigurd Anderson – From Immigrant Boy to Governor of South Dakota, provides context on his personal and political journey. This collection offers valuable historical insight into Anderson’s leadership at both the state and federal levels, highlighting his influence on economic policy and governance.

This collection is composed of course notes from the welding classes that Harry Svec taught. In the course notes there is also a brief history of how welding came to be and talks about the metal work that was done long ago. There are notes that contain how to do a certain weld and different types of welds and what they work best for. Also, there are magazines for welding that highlight different things that were happening in the welding industry during this time. Also included is a poem to one of his late friends, William Allen.

This is an artificial collection that consists of 95 athletic and general scrapbooks, which contain newspaper clippings from newspapers and publications from across the state of South Dakota. The athletic scrapbooks include clippings from all sports featured at South Dakota State University from 1947 to 1967. The general scrapbooks cover a wide range of topics; from articles featuring athletics, agriculture and research conducted on campus to articles written about and by college presidents and faculty members. The clippings inside of the scrapbooks are arranged by year and not topic.

This collection is composed of reports produced by the Curricula Evaluation Committee.

This series is composed of mainly of minutes from meetings and the club constitution, which includes several revised copies. The minutes include roll call, pledges, business, and nomination and election of officers. Also included are some activities conducted by the Stakota Club, correspondence, and a list of the duties of the secretary from 1967-68.

This collection is composed of meeting packets that were distributed to members of the council at each meeting. Included in these packets are membership lists, statistics, departmental reports, departmental publications, resolutions passed at previous meetings, presentations made, and leaflets stating the results from annual meetings. Also included is a 1969 newsletter stating the results from the annual meeting of that year.

This collection is composed mainly of the minutes from the meetings and some correspondence of the Publications Council. The minutes list members present and absent at each meeting and include letters of applications for editor and manager positions for the Jackrabbit and the Collegian. Also included are letters of recommendations to the Board of Control, budget requests and financial statements, editorials and stories submitted for publication in the Collegian, bids on printing, paper, engravings and covers for the Jackrabbit, and newspaper clippings from the Collegian.

The F. C. W. Kuehn Papers consist of architectural plans for various buildings, primarily located in South Dakota, spanning from 1917 to 1952. It includes designs for one-story and other structures, such as commercial buildings, schools, churches, and residential properties. Notable examples include the Huron Dairy Products Company, several South Dakota Standard and Kuehn’s Standard school buildings, and the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Doland. Additionally, the collection features plans for public works projects, including city auditoriums, fire stations, and service stations, as well as residential structures and a variety of renovations and repairs. These plans reflect the architectural development and growth of South Dakota during the early to mid-20th century, highlighting a range of construction types and purposes.
The architectural drawings include work from both Kuehn's years enrolled in the International Correspondence Schools and his career as an architect.

The general items are composed of miscellaneous items related to Kuehn.

The random specifications are composed of construction specifications for projects Kuehn worked on.

Newspaper Clippings

This collection is composed of records related to the removal of the College of Engineering from South Dakota State University in the early 1970s. Included are meeting minutes, reports, and research.

Comprised of David B. Doner’s scrapbook, which largely documents his career of public service. It also includes five loose family photographs.

The Faculty Association Records are composed of constitution, minutes and correspondence files. Most of the latter consists entirely of correspondence from or to the acting head of the association. Also included are committee records series spans the years 1946-1972, with the bulk of material from 1952-1960. Included are committee assignments and studies completed by various committees. Although the names of the individual committees changed over time, their function remained essentially the same. Committees were formed around the topics of tenure, promotion and rank, salary, insurance, retirement, and other such topics.

The painting is a ‘legacy’ in the archives. A handwritten note in the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs collection from Chuck Cecil (Nov. 3, 1967) reads “Contact Mrs. Earl Washburn of Fulton, S.D. regarding painting by Mrs. Evelyn Hubbard of Old North & Old Central. They desire the painting go to the Art Center.

In the course of his research over the last ten years, Associate Professor Matthew Cecil has used the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act to collect the J. Edgar Hoover-era FBI files of hundreds of prominent journalists. In all, Cecil has collected nearly 90,000 pages of FBI information. The files have provided the raw material for several scholarly publications and Cecil has several more, along with a book project, in the works.

The folders consist of photocopied files provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the request of Dr. Cecil. The documents were reviewed under the Freedom on Information/Privacy Acts, Title 5, United Stated Code, Section 552/552a by the FBI. Deletions were made to protect information which was exempt from disclosure. A deleted page information sheet was inserted in the file to indicate where pages were withheld. These sheets will be found in the folders.

Most of the material in the folders is made up of correspondence and clippings from newspapers and tearsheets from magazines and other publications. Researchers will also find case reports, FBI teletype (a message sent and received via a teleprinter-character printer connected to a telegraph that operates like a typewriter), routing slips, memoranda, telegrams, surveillance reports, news releases, interviews, essays, investigations, and typescripts.

While the strength of this collection lies in journalism and the J. Edgar Hoover era of the FBI, the topics of the collection covers a wide variety of subjects, from Communism and McCarthyism to organized crime, kidnapping, death threats, and the Kennedy Assassination and smear campaigns.

Some photocopies provided by the FBI are difficult to read. When this occurred, a sheet was inserted in the file that states:

"The best copy obtainable is included in the reproduction of these documents. Pages included that are blurred, lights, or otherwise difficult to read are the result of the condition of the original document. No better copy can be reproduced."

Some of the material received were water damaged. While no mold is present, the papers are warped and wrinkled. They are dry but may become brittle over time. These folders have been marked as "water damaged." The Archives reserves the right to refuse photocopy requests if these materials become too fragile or may be damaged by the photocopying process.

This collection is composed of collected materials presumably used for research, correspondence and writing and miscellaneous materials.

The collected material is composed of numerous pamphlets, newspapers and clippings, an 1862 book of poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, material of the Socialist Party in the United States, and a file of research on Steven Truscott, a man who was convicted of murder in Ontario, Canada but may have been wrongly accused.

The general papers include correspondence, some notes and an exam from some of Sewrey's history courses, miscellaneous items and photographs. The miscellaneous items include a map showing lakes, railways, wagon roads, hotels and other points of interest of the Lake District in the vicinity of Alexandria, Minnesota.

The manuscripts cover several topics but the main scope of this material is of anti-Catholicism and frontier Minnesota. Included in the manuscripts is a draft of Sewrey's master's thesis titled The Protestant Minister in Frontier Minnesota.

The published works also covers several topics but the main scope of this material is anti-Catholicism and Communism. Included in this material are two transcripts of a radio program titled Professor's Forum that was broadcast from the South Dakota State College radio station.

This collection is composed of an unedited manuscript for Kramer's book, A History of South Dakota State University 1884-1975. This manuscript was reduced for publication so there may be some material available that is not found in the book. Also included are biographies complied by Kramer of South Dakota State University presidents dating from 1884 to 1975.

This collection includes materials related to the personal and professional lives of Elmer and Cecile Sexauer, such as postcards, diaries, scrapbooks, and essays written by Cecile during her college years. It also contains items like agricultural reports presented to Elmer, certificates from their 50th college reunion, and various family papers. Travel diaries and over 400 postcards document their trips across the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, and Japan.

The collection offers valuable insight into the lives of Elmer and Cecile Sexauer, highlighting their family history, travels, and involvement in organizations like the Grain and Feed Dealers National Association. It serves as an important resource for understanding their personal experiences and social networks in the early 20th century.

The general material consists mainly of essays written by Cecile Welch Sexauer during her college career. Also included is a Christmas card list of the Sexauer's for 1971, scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, a book of Agricultural Department Reports presented to Elmer Sexauer in 1947, and certificates presented to the Sexauer's on the anniversary of their 50th college reunion. Some examples of their personal stationery, grade school papers from Elmer's youth, and a language paper of Laura Sexauer, Elmer's sister are also included.

A scrapbook of Elizabeth Anne Baker, age 9 weeks, chronicles her first visit to her grandparents’ home during Easter 1947. It was prepared by Jeannette Gagnon-Abbey for the Sexauer's.

The scrapbook was presented to Elmer Sexauer by the Grain and Feed Dealers National Association as a permanent reminder of the Forty-fourth Annual Convention held at Louisville, Kentucky October 13-15, 1940. Elmer was president of the Association at that time.
The postcards are composed of postcards from the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean that the Sexauer’s collected on their travels. There are over 400 postcards in this collection.

The Travels series consists of travel diaries hand-written by Cecile Sexauer. These diaries contain information about where the Sexauer's traveled and the customs, history and items of interest of these places. Some of the places the Sexauer's traveled to Europe, Canada, and Japan. Also included is a souvenir book of the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship.

There are numerous clippings and excerpts from radio spots highlighting the event. Some of the correspondence is interesting, as it shows the earliest stages of the trip. Much of the planning material for this event seems to be lost, however.

Jay Dirksen was the Track and Field and Cross Country coach at South Dakota State University from 1969 to 1977. The collection consists mainly of Dirksen's files on S.D.S.U. athletes coached by him. The file include record sheets of training programs, correspondence, clippings, photographs, and other data related to the running career of each athlete. Also included are files related to Dirksen's research on cross country running.

This collection documents the career and work of Bert Popowski as an author and hunter, highlighting his contributions to the fields of hunting, wildlife, and conservation. The materials span from 1935 to 1978, with a significant portion consisting of articles authored by Popowski on topics ranging from big game and varmint hunting to conservation and safety. The research material series is the largest, containing published articles in various hunting and wildlife publications, including an autographed copy of The Outdoorsman (June 1947) featuring Popowski’s article “Off-Season Duck Hunting.”

The collection includes a wide range of manuscripts accompanied by correspondence with publishers and records of submissions, publication status, and payments received. Manuscripts cover diverse subjects such as hunting techniques, wildlife, firearms, and conservation. Also included are materials related to Popowski’s books, such as illustrations by Gordon Elliott for Crow Shooting (29 ink drawings) and photograph proofs for Hunting Pronghorn Antelope (37 pages). Additional artwork features a mat board drawing of a fireplace, believed to depict Popowski’s cabin, created by C. Greenidge.

The general materials include correspondence from 1942–1956, as well as photographs, illustrations, and a phonograph record titled Crow Calling, which features Popowski demonstrating crow calls. The photographs include black-and-white images of wildlife and hunting, negatives, and a set of 22 matted and signed photographs that won first prize at the Iowa State Fair.

Another unique feature of the collection is Popowski’s contributions to the Japanese magazine Modern Hunting (1968–1970), which includes translated articles and writings on hunting techniques. The phonograph record further illustrates Popowski’s expertise and contributions to hunting practices.

The collection provides a comprehensive look at Popowski’s career, offering insight into mid-20th-century hunting culture, techniques, and the conservation movement through his writings, photographs, and artistic collaborations.

This collection contains transcripts of 144 interviews with American Indians from across the United States. The interviews were all conducted in the 1970s.

This collection is composed of correspondence, clippings, programs, treasurer's reports, publications, abstracts and reports, meeting minutes, and meeting planning material, including arrangements for speakers at annual meeting.

Each meeting was held at a different South Dakota college or university. Folders indicate the dates of the annual meeting, the venue where the meeting was held, and may list the topic for the meeting.

This appears to be a collection of commissioned works, created sometime in the 1960's or 1970's according to the organization's web site. These were most likely done in the later part of that period, as evidenced by the citation on the picture of Lincoln Hall as the "Lincoln Music Hall" – the library had already shifted, so this was after 1975 or so. Given this date, the painting of Old North (razed in 1962) was very likely done from a photograph, as the others also may have been reproduced.

This collection is composed of secretary books from the beginning of the club to 1956. The secretary books contain minutes of meetings and the constitution of the club. Also included are scrapbooks, general information, newsletters, handbooks and some material from the American Home Economics Association.

This collection is composed of initiation procedures, a manual, and minutes for Company I, 6th Regiment of Scabbard and Blade. The manual includes a calendar of events that the society had to follow throughout the year, procedures for initiation of candidates, jewelry, miscellaneous contact of company officers with national headquarters, standard forms furnished by the executive officer without charge, and duties of company officers. The initiation procedures detail the purpose, scope, time of initiation, nominations, and the objectives and conduct of pledge week. The minutes list members of Scabbard and Blade, elected officers, and treasury reports. Included are discussions on scholarships, amendments to the constitution, military balls, and other events on campus that the society was involved in, such as Hobo Day and Spring Sing.

The collection consists of completed Farm Family Record Books compiled by Alice and Oscar Simonson from June 1, 1941 thru December 31, 1979 for their farm in Day County, South Dakota. In these workbooks, issued by the US Department of Agriculture's Farmers Home Administration, farmers recorded monthly all money taken in and paid out, as well as farm-furnished food, an annual summary, and a five year inventory. Alice made detailed entries in the farm ledgers. She accounted for all incomes and expenses for their farm; everything was noted down to every nail purchased.

The collection also includes information about the Simonson family, images of the family and farm, and an oral history interview conducted with Alice Simonson in 2016.
