Administration

Composed mainly of president, secretary, and treasurer records, and scrapbooks. The president's records were maintained by the various presidents and cover the years from 1951-1978. The secretary's records consist of minutes, programs, correspondence, and clippings and span the years 1928-1992. The treasurer's records are financial ledgers for the years 1928-1963. The scrapbooks comprise the largest part of this series and are mainly a history of the organization throughout the years. They contain programs, photographs, clippings, and memorabilia. Also included in this sub-group are chairman handbooks, guidelines, constitutions, newsletters, slide presentations, and program material. Some items of interest include a gavel, podium cloth with the organization's logo, and a bicentennial resolution from 1974.

Jeanne Johnson and Antiques Ltd.

Details Jeanne Johnson's antique business, including information on business partners and the original articles of incorporation for the business. It also includes a personal planner and news clippings of interest.

Timelines

Composed of notebooks containing timeline indexes with brief accounts of diary entries from 1945 through 2010. The index was compiled by Lonita Gustad Corothers to easily finding specific dates and accounts. Starred entries indicate more important life events.

Big Stone Power Plant

The Big Stone Power Plant Records are composed of the annual and quarterly reports that describe the experiments Dornbush conducted at the Big Stone Power Plant. Included in this collection is the field file for the water monitoring project with a full report that also contains the laboratory work that covers how the wells in the area compared. Throughout this collection there are also worksheets that contain an in-depth look into the experiments that were conducted.

Marshall, Minn. - Lyon County, Minn. - Southwest State University

This series includes numerous newspaper clippings related to the subgroup including area government, education and various civic events. A large portion of this subgroup includes information pertaining to Southwest State University, where Mr. Johnson was employed from 1969 until 1981. Most of this information was collected after his retirement, and a large percentage is in the form of newspaper clippings. Also included are various telephone directories for Marshall and Lyon County, MN, as well as SSU campus directories.

Brookings County Clubs

Composed mainly of records for the 49ers Extension Club and the Du Cum Extension Club. This material consists of secretary's record books which contain minutes, programs, correspondence, and clippings. Other items included are club enrollment information, a constitution, a scrapbook, and some historical information. Also included is a small amount of material related to the Mystery Neighbors which is also sometime named Mystery Sisters Extension Club.

Diaries

Composed of diaries from August of 1945 through June 2010. Of note are the early diaries which mention events of World War II and the author's years as a pharmacy student at South Dakota State College from 1946 to 1950.

Collected material

The Collected material consists of city and county reports, researcher’s abstracts and publications, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) material guides, Garrison Diversion Unit data, James River information, OAHE unit stages, city and county plans, along with the Clarifier and OpFlow publications.

Articles about Evans

Composed mainly of newspaper clippings of articles featuring Evans. The articles relate to his career as a writer and focus on his accomplishments, readings, workshops, work as writer-in-residence, publications, and work as Poet Laureate of South Dakota. This material is arranged chronologically by year. The article title is noted in the folder description.

Recognition

Composed of information about honors awarded to Cook-Lynn as well as material related to contests Cook-Lynn entered.

Personal papers

Composed of information related to Mr. Johnson's family, friends, and military and professional careers. Included are separate records for each of his children and grandchildren, including photographs and newspaper clippings, as well as various forms of correspondence. Other files include information on childhood and family friends, which include assorted newspaper clippings and photographs. The military files include photographs taken during wartime as well as military placement correspondence. The professional section includes photographs and newspaper articles from his beginnings in the newspaper business through his retirement, as well as letters of acceptance and resignation from his different jobs. Also included in this series are various plaques and awards.

Correspondence

Includes correspondence from the different series listed for this collection. Included are letters to and from teaching colleagues and students, from book publishers and literary agents, as well as writing friends. From the Wicazo Za Review were are essays that had been submitted for inclusion as well as editorial correspondence between Native American writers and prominent figures. This series includes photographs of a Native American ceremony, the Crazy Horse Monument, and other assorted subjects. The original files were separated into alphabetical organization through approximately 1990. Materials after that date were incorporated into the original organization, in keeping with Cook-Lynn’s original method.

Dorand Engineering Services

The Dorand Engineering Services Records are composed of papers from Dornbush's career, including files on consulting work independently with Dorand Engineering Services. The bulk of this material covers consulting for Chef Reddy Foods, Fairfield Products, Inc., McCain Foods, and for the City of Watertown, South Dakota.

Correspondence

Comprised of letters exchanged between Tom Corothers and Lonita Gustad dated from 1949-1964 during their courtship and early marriage. The bulk of the letters were exchanged before their marriage, from 1949 to 1951.

Poetry

Comprised of poetry written and arranged by Lonita Corothers. The manuscript was compiled in 2003 out of poems written throughout her adult life. The manuscript was received in five 3-ring binders: 1: Nature, Faith; 2: Love, Anger, Humor; 3: Death, Grief; 4: Philosophy; 5: Age, Miscellaneous.

Moody County Clubs

Composed mainly of club enrollment information, club histories, and secretary's books. The club enrollment information spans the years 1938-1994 and includes lists of names of clubs which were associated with Moody County Extension Homemakers. The club histories are of individual clubs and include information about when the clubs were organized, members, programs, clippings and some photographs. The secretary's books consist of minutes, programs, correspondence, and clippings. Other items in this series include reports, constitution and by-laws, programs, clippings, photographs, and ephemera.

Writings

Includes the drafts and manuscripts of Cook-Lynn’s writings. This series is arranged into sub-series: articles, books, editorials, essays, novels, novellas, poetry, reviews, other writings, unpublished manuscripts, publishers, related material. The series includes drafts in progress and drafts in progress and drafts not published.

China trip

Composed of material collected and gathered by Evans over the course of his trips to China and the writings the occurred as a result of these trips. Included is correspondence, diaries, research and writings.

Research and collected materials

Composed of files on items of interest to Mr. Johnson. These include coworkers, acquaintances, current events, education, etc. Most of this information is in the form of newspaper articles. Information relating to the University of Minnesota and its Alumni Association and South Dakota State University are included in this section.

Personal papers

Composed of many personal papers including university correspondence, class lectures, research, charts/data, community involvement, City of Brookings consulting, Students theses and orals, material from conferences and seminars such as the Operators Short Courses.

Schwan's Home Service, Inc.

Consists of information related to Mr. Johnson's employment as a consultant for the news and publications section of Schwan's, as well as newspaper articles relating to the company. This subgroup includes the research and interviews for some of the articles included in Schwan's News, the main publication he worked on. Correspondence regarding his employment is also included, as well as various photographs and newspaper articles relating to the company and Marvin Schwan.

Composed of many personal papers including university correspondence, class lectures, research, charts/data, community involvement, City of Brookings consulting, Students theses and orals, material from conferences and seminars such as the Operators Short Courses.

Collected material

Composed of material found in the collection that the arranger did not find any direct relation to Evans. It is assumed that Evans collected this material because it related to his interests. Included are some poetry books, business cards, material related to Sioux City, Iowa, the National Federation of State Poetry Society, and South Dakota State University, as well as some various journals.

Original Writings

Comprised of original writing by Lonita Corothers, both poetry and prose. Most, if not all, of these pieces were copied by the author and appear elsewhere in the collection. The writings were collected in envelopes and appear to have been placed in the envelopes by the author as they were copied. They do not appear to have been gathered in any order (chronological or subject) that could be ascertained. They are written on various types of scrap paper, such as discarded letters, envelopes, grocery lists, or church bulletins. The writing is rarely dated, however an approximate date would sometimes be indicated by the scrap paper.

Teaching career

Composed of files relating to Cook-Lynn’s teaching experience. This series is arranged into sub-series: Arizona State University, Eastern Washington University, the University of California-Davis, West Virginia University, Course material, and general teaching files. Included are syllabi, papers, teaching notes, and materials related to Cook-Lynn’s teaching experience.
