Army Administration Schools, Enlisted Branch No. 3 Records

This collection is composed of a history, report of a survey, and a scrapbook related to the Army Administration School on the campus of South Dakota State College during World War II. Also included is a small amount of material related to the Army Specialized Training Program. The history of the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College includes a list of names of officers and what is believed to be participants. The report details buildings and property furnished to the Army Administration School by South Dakota State College. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, graduation programs and photographs relating to the Army Administration School at South Dakota State College. The miscellaneous material includes a program for graduation exercises of the second class of the school held in August 1943, a note card listing the number of army men on campus, and a license certificate for a pure bred stallion recorded in April 1913. The relationship of this certificate to the Army Administration School is unknown.

This collection is composed mainly of plates, publications, reports, a small amount of correspondence, and photographs. The plates consist of frames, cover mast-heads, article mast-heads, frames for photographs, and other artwork used for the publication. A more detailed description of these plates is found in the container list. The publications are mainly specialty publications aimed at advertisers and marketers. The reports are surveys conducted on farmers, bankers, merchants.

An item of note is the contracting for a new cover file. This material contains several examples of other publication covers with critiques of what works and what does not. Also included in this material is three sample covers for the Dakota Farmer and correspondence between the contractor and the Dakota Farmer staff.

A.L. Musson Papers

This collection is composed of materials from a trip made by Musson to Somalia, East Africa in 1954. Included are scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, slides, notes, correspondence, some publications and articles about Somalia, maps, and trip preparation items.

The scrapbooks consist of pictures taken while in Somalia. Included are Musson's translations of the Italian descriptions that are written on the back of most of the pictures. The photographs, negatives and slides consist of more pictures of Somalia but do not include any description of each image.

The notes consist of writings made by Musson while in Somalia. The correspondence consists mainly of communications with the Foreign Operations Administration in preparation for Musson's trip. The publications and articles include items about Somalia that Musson probably read in preparation for his trip. The trip preparations include information about customs in Somalia, immunizations for travel abroad, and some paper work that includes an investigation form for security clearance that details some biographical information about Musson. Also included are a few maps of Somalia that show some of the places that Musson visited.

This collection is composed of collected materials presumably used for research, correspondence and writing and miscellaneous materials.

The collected material is composed of numerous pamphlets, newspapers and clippings, an 1862 book of poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, material of the Socialist Party in the United States, and a file of research on Steven Truscott, a man who was convicted of murder in Ontario, Canada but may have been wrongly accused.

The general papers include correspondence, some notes and an exam from some of Sewrey's history courses, miscellaneous items and photographs. The miscellaneous items include a map showing lakes, railways, wagon roads, hotels and other points of interest of the Lake District in the vicinity of Alexandria, Minnesota.

The manuscripts cover several topics but the main scope of this material is of anti-Catholicism and frontier Minnesota. Included in the manuscripts is a draft of Sewrey's master's thesis titled The Protestant Minister in Frontier Minnesota.

The published works also covers several topics but the main scope of this material is anti-Catholicism and Communism. Included in this material are two transcripts of a radio program titled Professor's Forum that was broadcast from the South Dakota State College radio station.

There are numerous clippings and excerpts from radio spots highlighting the event. Some of the correspondence is interesting, as it shows the earliest stages of the trip. Much of the planning material for this event seems to be lost, however.

Jay Dirksen was the Track and Field and Cross Country coach at South Dakota State University from 1969 to 1977. The collection consists mainly of Dirksen's files on S.D.S.U. athletes coached by him. The file include record sheets of training programs, correspondence, clippings, photographs, and other data related to the running career of each athlete. Also included are files related to Dirksen's research on cross country running.

Bert Popowski Papers

This collection is composed of articles, manuscripts, and materials related to Popowski's career as author and hunter. Included are photographs, illustrations, and many articles. Bulk of collection is copies of articles authored by Popowski on the subject of hunting and wildlife.

The general materials are composed of correspondence from 1942-1956.

The illustrations consist of several loose-leaf illustrations of crows drawn by Gordon Elliott for Popowski's book titled Crow Shooting and include 29 ink drawings. Also included are two folders of photograph proofs (37 pages) for Popowski's book titled Hunting Pronghorn Antelope, 1 mat board drawing of a fireplace in what is suspected to be Popowski's cabin and drawn by C. Greenidge and one phonograph record titled Crow Calling.

The Japanese magazine Modern Hunting is composed of article submitted by Popowski.

The manuscripts are accompanied by correspondence sent to publishers and an information card, which notes to which publications Popowski sent his manuscripts, whether or not they were published and the amount he was paid for these manuscripts.

The phonograph records is composed of a recording of Popowski demonstrating crow calls. The photographs consist of several black and white photographs, mostly of wildlife and hunting, and a few negatives. Some items of note are 22 matted and signed black and white photographs that Popowski entered into a photography contest at the Iowa State Fair. He won first prize for these photographs.

The research material is the largest series is Popowski's collection of articles he had published in various hunting and wildlife publications. These articles cover a wide range of subjects from big game, crow and varmint hunting to safety and conservation issues. Included also is an autographed copy of The Outdoorsman (June 1947) in which Popowski wrote an article titled "Off-Season" Duck Hunting.

Oscar and Alice Simonson Papers

The collection consists of completed Farm Family Record Books compiled by Alice and Oscar Simonson from June 1, 1941 thru December 31, 1979 for their farm in Day County, South Dakota. In these workbooks, issued by the US Department of Agriculture's Farmers Home Administration, farmers recorded monthly all money taken in and paid out, as well as farm-furnished food, an annual summary, and a five year inventory. Alice made detailed entries in the farm ledgers. She accounted for all incomes and expenses for their farm; everything was noted down to every nail purchased.

The collection also includes information about the Simonson family, images of the family and farm, and an oral history interview conducted with Alice Simonson in 2016.

Also included is a history of the program and plans for a new laboratory, the Family Resource and Management Center.

The Women Artists in Collaboration Records consist of various items collected by Marilyn Richardson, a co-founder of Women Artists in Collaboration. The bulk of material is correspondence, financial records and projects that the group worked on. The projects material is interesting because it deals with ideas for performances and the collaboration process. Included in the material are clippings, guest books, meeting notes, member biographies, and programs. Also included are two scrapbooks that contain pictures of performances presented by the group and other memorabilia.

Florence and Geraldine Fenn Inner-City Scholarship Collection

The Florence and Geraldine Fenn Inner-City Scholarship collection is composed of scrapbooks, journals, photographs, and miscellaneous materials related to the Fenn Scholarship. Included are photos of the Fenn Scholars and the places they worked and lived in Denver, Colorado, their weekly expense sheets and itineraries, journals relating their experiences, newspaper clippings, and many brochures from sites in Denver.

The material was originally arranged in scrapbooks, which were dismantled for preservation purposes. The photographs were separated to the UA Photograph Archives. Any ephemera in the scrapbooks were placed in separate folders. Three of the scrapbooks (1989-1991) were retained in their original condition as an example.

This collection is composed of materials related to dance and the teaching of dance at South Dakota State University. Slides, photographs, videos, posters and scrapbooks document the formal entrance of dance into the university curriculum.

The awards and plaques are composed of various awards and plaques presented to Marilyn Richardson over the years.

The general papers is composed of programs, newsletters, Dance Club material, dance camp and workshop material, concert choreography, and clippings from newspapers and other publications. Also included is the Dance Minor proposal and history at SDSU, information on Nellie G. Kendall, Barbara Kohn, and Terry Larvie, and biographical data of Marilyn Richardson.

The publicity material is composed of posters used for publicity for dance concerts given at SDSU by students, faculty and guest artists and companies. Some of the posters include collages of photographs which may duplicate photographs in the Photographs, Slides and Videocassettes series.

The photographs, slides and video cassettes include images of students and faculty, dance concerts, rehearsals, camps, workshops, the Motion Machine and guest artist and companies. The videos are of concerts, the Motion Machine, student projects, student solos, dance camps, rehearsals, and experimental dance.

The scrapbooks were created for the Dance Club and the Modern Dance Club and include photographs, programs, and clippings.

The Robert T. Wagner papers span his career from 1971 until his retirement in 1997. The records are composed of materials related to all aspects of his career at South Dakota State University. Also included is a small amount of material related to his service as Vice President at Dakota State College.

Files related to his academic teaching as a professor of Rural Sociology at SDSU are composed of correspondence, calendars, programs related to speaking engagements, and greeting cards of thanks and birthday wishes. A minimal amount of material is related to the courses he taught.

The Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at SDSU records are composed of calendars, correspondence, clippings, newsletters, greeting cards, photographs, and certificates awarded to Wagner. A small amount of materials related to teaching can be found in these files as he still taught some classes during this time.

Records related to his presidency at SDSU make up the largest portion of this collection. These files are composed of correspondence, clippings, calendars, certificates, reports, newsletters, evaluations, and greeting cards. At the end of this material researchers will find material related to his retirement.

Consists mainly of minutes and agendas from meetings of the SDCIA, along with the programs, letters, reports and pamphlets that were dealt with in each meeting. The minutes include minutes from the annual meetings, board of directors meetings, committee meetings and district meetings. There are programs for the annual meetings, crop shows and banquets. The letters include correspondence with members of the Crop Improvement Associations of other states and with the national Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies, as well as between SDCIA members. The reports include financial reports and statements, and also reports on the activities of the organization. The pamphlets include the SDCIA newsletter (The Crop Improvement Reporter), CIA newsletters from the surrounding states, booklets of weed laws, and seed certification manuals. In addition there is a history article that was prepared for the agency’s 75th anniversary in the year 2000.

The collection also contains photographs. These are primarily photos of the various crop shows and field days held by the SDCIA.

General Federation of Women's Clubs of South Dakota Records

The collection is composed of administrative material, District V material, including GFWC Brookings and Brookings Civic League, and campaign material for the creation of the South Dakota Memorial Art Center.

The Administrative files is composed directories, programs, a constitution and by-laws and the South Dakota Clubwoman newsletters. The South Dakota Clubwoman newsletters make up the bulk of this series.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South Dakota has divided the state into six Federation Districts. District V includes the counties of Marshall, Day, Clark, Kingsbury, Roberts, Grant, Codington, Hamlin, Deuel, and Brookings. The material composed of minutes, reports, programs, club reports, correspondence, clippings, and constitutions and by-laws. The club reports are reports sent to the District V president describing the clubs activities for the year. These are arranged alphabetically by town with all clubs for a town filed in one folder. The minutes, reports, and programs are filed together and consist of minutes from board meeting of GFWC, District V and deal mainly with preparations for annual meetings and conventions. The reports are mainly reports from conventions and the programs are from annual conventions.

The Brookings Civic League files are composed mainly of minutes of the Brookings Civic League. The minutes are dispersed throughout seven ledgers and include meeting minutes, annual reports, treasurer's reports and some correspondence. Also included are an account book and two scrapbooks from the 1970's. One of the scrapbooks is historical in nature and consists of programs from annual conventions of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of South Dakota, clippings, and other memorabilia.

The GFWC Brookings sub-series is composed of minutes, scrapbooks, reports, and photographs and slides.

The Memorial Art Center Campaign Records are composed of correspondence, minutes, financial records, agreements, clippings, and architectural renderings and blueprints.

The materials in this collection were collected and donated by Dr. Charles Woodard of the South Dakota State University English Department. The collection is primarily composed of correspondence between Audrae Visser and Dr. Woodard and includes many of her writings to fulfill class assignments. Also included are photographs she took and written accounts of her frequent travel vacations, as well as materials related to her awards, honors, and activities as a poet and as a member of numerous organizations.

This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, photographs, and many poetic and prose writings by Visser including book reviews and reports, speeches, and a Pioneer Humor Project undertaken to fulfill the requirements of the Heritage of the Prairies Institute at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota.

This memorabilia collected by Barbara Bates Gunderson is comprised chiefly of scrapbooks, which document her public, political and governmental career. The contents of these scrapbooks are mostly newspaper and magazine clippings and black and white photographs, as well as some business correspondence, invitations, badges, programs, etc. In folders are additional unorganized loose clippings, black and white photographs, correspondence, speeches, publications, etc. Also included are the contents taken from hanging picture frames, a plaque, and a silver presentation box.

The Sokota Hybrid Producers, Inc. records are composed mainly of Board of Directors minutes from its incorporation in 1944 to its dissolution in 1986. Most of the minutes include an agenda and the minutes. Some may include newsletters, correspondence, and reports. The collection also includes articles of incorporation, by-laws, purchase agreement, financial material, and trademark information.

The financial material is composed of corn payments, revolving fund certificates, grower and producer ledger sheets, and other certificates related to the financial portion of Sokota.

Also included are newspapers clippings on the history of Sokota, South Dakota codified laws in relation to cooperatives, and a photocopy of the first check written.

N.E. Hansen

This collection is composed of articles and other materials written by N.E. Hansen, including writings for the South Dakota Experiment Station in the form of bulletins and circulars. Includes notebooks and field records of some South Dakota Experiment Stations and early ledgers of the South Dakota Horticultural Society, for which Hansen acted as secretary. Also included is material donated by Helen Hansen Loen, granddaughter of N.E. Hansen. This material is composed of addresses, clippings, correspondence, journals, Loen Research, manuscripts, notebooks, publications, and travel material. Most of this material belonged to N.E. Hansen with the remainder being material collected by Ms. Loen for her written histories of her grandfather.

SDSU Records

This series is composed of addresses, collected works, SDSC Horticulture Department materials, manuscripts, notebooks, publications, SD Agricultural Experiment Station materials, and photographs.

The addresses are speeches given by Hansen at the South Dakota State Conservation and Development and Dry Farming Congress in 1911 and the International Congress of Genetics in Berlin, Germany in 1927.

The collected works consists of material collected by Hansen and includes reports on forests, sheep and forage crops. Also included are items filed as general. This material includes biographies written about Hansen, one of which is written in Danish and some material related to recognition of Hansen in 1949.

The manuscripts consist of articles written by Hansen on the subjects of alfalfa and the fine arts. The notebooks include planting records and field plot notations detailing where alfalfa, clover, grasses and grains were planted. These notebooks are dated from 1888 to 1913. The photographs consist mainly of images from travels to Siberia and Northern China in 1924. Also included are images of apples, sheep, and Hansen with trees. The photographs were removed from the collection and placed in the UA Photograph Archives for preservation. Ask staff for assistance with these items.

The publications consist mainly of SD Agricultural Experiment Station bulletins written by Hansen. Also included are some creative works by Hansen, poems written for Hobo Day and a copy of The Yellow and Blue, the South Dakota State College school song for which Hansen wrote the words.

The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station material consists of field records for the Agronomy Department and cover mostly the Brookings experiment station, although a few have notes for the Highmore experiment station. This material is dated from 1915 to 1947.

The Horticulture Department material consists of ledgers, which contain records of individuals who joined the South Dakota Horticultural Society and a list of the free premiums they received, usually packets of seeds, and annual reports of the Society. Also included were miscellaneous items that were kept in the ledgers, which were removed and placed in a separate folder for conservation purposes. These ledgers are dates from 1908 to 1929.

The Plant Specimens were collected by Hansen on his travels as an agricultural explorer for the United States Department of Agriculture. He searched for hardy grasses, fruits, and other plants throughout Europe and Asia and brought them back to the United States to raise or crossbreed with American varieties to produce hardy plants. Each Specimen is mounted on an 11.5 x 16.5 inch herbarium sheet accompanied by a label printed in Russian in Cyrillic letter with hand-written notation in blank ink."

Loen Records

This series is composed of addresses, clippings, correspondence, journals, Loen Research, manuscripts, notebooks, publications, and travel material. The material is this series was collected by Helen Hansen Loen, granddaughter of N.E. Hansen. Most of the material belonged to N.E. Hansen with the remainder being material collected by Ms. Loen for her research.

The addresses are composed of speeches given by N.E. Hansen at various venues including the SD State Horticulture Society and the International Congress of Genetics in Berlin, Germany in 1927. This material is dates from 1905 to 1936.

The clippings consist of newspaper and magazine article clipping about N.E. Hansen. Topics include plant breeding, grapes, thornless roses, alfalfa, fruit, wheatgrass, and travels. Many of the articles are biographical.

The correspondence material is dated from 1873 to 1943. The bulk of this material is correspondence between N. E. Hansen and his father, Andreas. Also included is correspondence between family members, friends. and business associates Many of the letters, especially between Niels and his father, are in Danish. Ms. Loen had these letters translated. These translations are included with the original letters. Most of the material consists of original letters, envelopes (some of which are empty), translation transcripts, and notes by Helen Loen. Also included are postcards dated from 1913 from N.E. Hansen to his son Carl with Hansen traveled in Russia.

The journals were kept by N.E. Hansen and cover college and travel years. Included are loose notes, ephemera, financial statements, and business cards. Pressed leaves were found in the journal dates 1882-83. This material is dated between 1879 and 1922. The Loen Research material consists of material gathered by Helen Hansen Loen in compiling written histories of her grandfather, Niels Ebbesen Hansen. Included in this material is correspondence, genealogical research, N.E. Hansen biographical information; including his academic career at Iowa State College and his professional career at South Dakota State College.

The manuscripts consist mainly of original manuscripts written by N.E. Hansen. Included is an unpublished manuscript titled "Russia as Observed by an Agricultural Explorer," written between 1934 and 1937. This includes at least two copies of each page, some of which are handwritten, and some that are edited by cutting and taping. This material is arranged alphabetically by title. The unpublished manuscript "Russia as Observed by an Agricultural Explorer" is arranged by page number. This was done to allow researchers to see the evolution of Hansen's editing and to show the various topics covered by the manuscript.

The notebooks include miscellaneous notes on plants, a calendar of events, and course work while Hansen attended Iowa State College. This material is dated 1883 and 1908-1909.

The publications consist mainly of reprints of bulletins written for the SD Agricultural Experiment Station. Also included are reprints of other published articles and a copy of The Yellow and Blue, the South Dakota State College school song for which Hansen wrote the words. This material is dated between 1904 and 1947.

The travel material deals with Hansen's travels to Russia, Siberia, Central Asia, Turkestan, and Northern Africa. Included are maps, expenses, and a permit issued by Russia for Hansen in 1897. This material is dated between 1897.

The collection is arranged by item type. Information on Sigma Xi is minimal, consisting of some proposals and planning notes. The information put out by SDSU for the Science Fair is quite comprehensive, including programs and brochures from a number of years, as are the budgets and expense records. There is a good amount of material relating to Science Fair winners and their projects, though the dates of this information are quite random. The publications for ISEF are also quite comprehensive, including rule books, participant forms, programs, touring and housing information, and books of abstracts of participant research.

The Linda Hall Daschle Collection is composed of records created and collected by Linda Daschle during her career in aviation and her husband's career in the U.S. Congress. Included are awards and recognition that she received related to her work for various private and federal aviation associations and offices. Her collection also contains materials such as correspondence, press clips, and audio-visual recordings created during her career in the Federal Aviation Administration. Of note are letters from President Clinton and Vice President Gore, and remarks by Gore at the International Conference on Aviation Safety and Security in 1997.

Collected materials such as correspondence, trip schedules, weekly reports, and clippings from Tom Daschle's political career are included, as well as numerous audio-visual recordings of his speeches, interviews, and other activities. The remainder of the collection is comprised of plans, materials, and clippings of Tom Daschle's campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, particularly the races against Clint Roberts and James Abdnor.

This collection is composed of the records of the Faculty Women's Club from the beginnings of the club in 1917 to the late 1990's when the club evolved into the SDSU Club. Material found in the collection consists mainly of minutes, president's reports, constitutions, newsletters, directories, programs, photographs, clippings and financial records, including a loan fund ledger and scholarship information. Also included is material on faculty receptions, teas, and luncheons, material on the club's involvement with the Memorial Art Center, and several histories of the club. A history of the auxiliary club of the Newcomers Club is also included, along with minutes of their meetings.

In 1993, the Faculty Women's Club celebrated its 75th anniversary and put on a style show that gave a history of the club since its establishment. A script and a video recording of the event are included here.

This collection also includes SDSU Club materials from 1998 to the present, including brochures, posters and invitations.

This collection is composed of materials produced and collection by the 125th Anniversary Planning Committee. Folders include minutes, clippings, event invitations and programs, publications, photographs, audio-visual material, departmental histories, and memorabilia.

The Cooperative Extension Service celebration material is composed of material from several South Dakota County Extension offices and related what each county did to celebrate the 125th anniversary of South Dakota State University. Folders may contain photographs, clippings and other material documenting the event.

The audio-visual material is composed of master and finished product video footage in the form of videos and DVDs for the 125th anniversary celebration projects. Included with the material are taped interviews of prominent individuals, such as United States Senators and Representatives. Also included are some scripts.

Colleges, departments and faculty were to submit recommendations for a summary of important dates, events and people in the history of South Dakota State University. They were asked for focus on accomplishments since 1964 when the institution was granted university status. These are found in the material marked as Survey of Accomplishments.

Other material of interest includes a resolution proposed by the South Dakota Legislative Assembly, and memorabilia associated with the celebration, such as a replica of the Coughlin Campanile that includes a piece limestone from the original structure.

The collection is composed of material collected by the Phi Upsilon Omicron Phi Chapters at South Dakota State University. Included are correspondence, minutes, newsletters, annual reports, scrapbooks, member lists, financial information, publications, clippings, meeting minutes and agendas, and photographs.

Also included is "The Candle," the Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society journal, covering the years 1930-2004, annual reports submitted to the national headquarters, Initiate information sheets, detailed ledger sheets starting in 1934, hand-made chapter programs, very creative from 1937 to about 1980, senior biographies from 1952-1971 which are very detailed and include photographs, and detailed secretaries notebooks.

The scrapbooks consist of photographs, cards, significant correspondence and programs for events held by the chapter. Some items of note include a Coat of Arms patch for Phi Upsilon Omicron, a Holy Bible presented to the chapter by Laura J. McArthur in December 1941, and a material related to a Fruitcake Fundraising project which includes photographs, but the fruitcake recipe could not be found.

The photographs are not well described; however, most are group shots of members.

This collection is composed of official records of the American Association of University Women, Brookings Branch's activities, including reports, minutes, newsletters, programs, bylaws and correspondence. No series is complete.

The administrative series is composed of annual reports, bylaws, financial and fund raising reports, minutes and suggestions for the president. The Minutes include minutes from regular meetings and executive board meetings. These also include member lists and reports of some projects that were worked on by the organization.

The general series is composed of accreditation material, clippings, correspondence, items from projects and study groups, a history of the Brookings branch, and a scrapbook. The history of the Brookings branch include information on how the branch was started in Brookings and includes biographies of Vivian Volstorff, a member who was instrumental in getting the branch accredited and Gertrude Stickney Young, the group's first president. The material identified as scrapbook, was found in a scrapbook, but was dismantled for preservation purposes.

This collection is composed of material related to athletics at South Dakota State University. Included are files regarding administration, the Athletics Committee, publications, the Women's Recreation Association, and files related to specific sports (e.g. baseball, men's and women's basketball, cross country, football, rodeo, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling).

The administrative material consists of material dealing with academic advising, development, compliance, equipment, facilities and operations, the Jackrabbit Sports Network, marketing and promotion, and the ticket office. Folders are composed of annual reports, programs, handbooks, brochures, photographs, mascot designs, newsletters, schedules. The series also contains banners, caps, t-shirts, and jerseys. The Athletics Committee consist of meeting minutes and budget files. Files regarding of the individual sports consist of media guides, clippings, record books, programs, brochures, fact books, and photographs. A large amount of cross country and track and field files are included and consist of results from meets and workouts and research. The publications series includes the Rabbit Report from 1978-2014 and The Bum from 1956 to 2017. These files are not complete as they are missing some issues.

This collection is composed of newsletters, meeting minutes, and programs for the Association. Information about some influential members is also included.

The newsletters cover the years 1941–1999. These include minutes from meetings, up-coming events, scholarships awarded, officers elected, honorary memberships granted, and information on programs sponsored by the Association. The meetings and minutes are programs handed out at annual meetings. They include agenda for the meeting and minutes from past meetings. Also included are some financial statements and revisions to the by-laws, constitution, and policies of the Association.

There is some correspondence from Eva Dawes, the first president of the Association. This gives some background on the beginnings of the Association. Also included are lists of officers, council and charter members, and honorary members. There are some lists of recipients of awards given by the Association (Outstanding Junior and Senior Professionals and Teacher of the Year); revisions of policy statements between 1971 and 1996, and the strategic plan of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences 1995-2000.

This collection is composed of the papers of Robert V. Burns. The bulk of the collection is related to the NAFTA Conference arranged by Dr. Burns in 2000, the South Dakota Executive Branch reorganization, and material associated with his involvement as a commissioner on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (W.I.C.H.E.).

The NAFTA Conference material deals with the Canadian/United States Agricultural Trade Issues Emerging form NAFTA conference. Included is correspondence with participants, and government officials, publications, publicity, talking points, conference proceedings, and a copy of South Dakota governor William Janklow's keynote speech. The South Dakota Executive Branch Reorganization includes material associated with the Citizen's Commission on Executive Reorganization on which Dr. Burns served. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is composed meeting agenda books and publications of the commission.

Also included are minutes, agenda and correspondence associated with the various committees and commissions on which Burns served, such as the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, the Constitutional Revision Commission, files pertaining to railroad safety in Brookings, South Dakota, judicial elections, and a file pertaining to his State Representative campaign in 1980.
