This collection is composed of local, national, and foreign records of Joseph McAuliffe’s involvement in 4-H. Folders include newsletters, flyers, invitations, photographs, personal documents, newspaper articles and clippings, correspondence, notes, and pamphlets.

This collection is composed of postcards and other items related to trips taken by Elmer and Cecile Sexauer. Also includes diaries, scrapbooks and family materials collected primarily by Cecile (Welch) Sexauer.

The general material consists mainly of essays written by Cecile Welch Sexauer during her college career. Also included is a Christmas card list of the Sexauer's for 1971, scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, a book of Agricultural Department Reports presented to Elmer Sexauer in 1947, and certificates presented to the Sexauer's on the anniversary of their 50th college reunion. Some examples of their personal stationery, grade school papers from Elmer's youth, and a language paper of Laura Sexauer, Elmer's sister are also included.

A scrapbook of Elizabeth Anne Baker, age 9 weeks, chronicles her first visit to her grandparents’ home during Easter 1947. It was prepared by Jeannette Gagnon-Abbey for the Sexauer's.

The scrapbook was presented to Elmer Sexauer by the Grain and Feed Dealers National Association as a permanent reminder of the Forty-fourth Annual Convention held at Louisville, Kentucky October 13-15, 1940. Elmer was president of the Association at that time.
The postcards are composed of postcards from the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean that the Sexauer’s collected on their travels. There are over 400 postcards in this collection.

The Travels series consists of travel diaries hand-written by Cecile Sexauer. These diaries contain information about where the Sexauer's traveled and the customs, history and items of interest of these places. Some of the places the Sexauer's traveled to Europe, Canada, and Japan. Also included is a souvenir book of the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship.

Photocopy of a handwritten account of Emil Jacobsen' life. The bound memoir contains 254 pages of Jacobsen's account along with ten pages of family tree materials and explanations.

This collection contains Elvin Bjorklund Soil Conservation Service papers. It is comprised of records on Soil Conservation Service's works, events, and personnel. Likewise, it has photographs of personnel, conservation, and events. There are correspondence between Bjorklund and South Dakota representatives and senators on the Oahe Irrigation Project and the passing of State Director of Soil Conservation Service Ross. D. Davies. Additionally it includes Resource study (1967), Engineer Handbook (1946), South Dakota Conservation Needs Inventory (1970).

Composed of materials related to the Geography Department. Folders consist of programs, pamphlets, correspondence, clippings, booklets and program reviews. Also included is a booklet on graduate study in geography, and a list of house types in Brookings, SD.

This collection is composed of local and national records of the South Dakota Paint Horse Club. Folders include newsletters, programs, futurity reports, show records, auction records, meeting minutes, directories, newspaper articles, correspondence, financial statements, memorandums, and tapes.

This ledger discovered on a table at a rummage sale in Mobridge, South Dakota. A librarian from Northern State University found it, purchased it, and gave it to Phil Mulvaney, Dean of Libraries at NSU, who forwarded the ledger to Dean Marquardt at South Dakota State University. Dean Marquardt transferred it to SDSU Archives and Special Collections in 2002.

The ledger was maintained by an unknown student at South Dakota State College during World War II. The ledger contains a detailed list of student expenses.

The Faculty Association Records are composed of constitution, minutes and correspondence files. Most of the latter consists entirely of correspondence from or to the acting head of the association. Also included are committee records series spans the years 1946-1972, with the bulk of material from 1952-1960. Included are committee assignments and studies completed by various committees. Although the names of the individual committees changed over time, their function remained essentially the same. Committees were formed around the topics of tenure, promotion and rank, salary, insurance, retirement, and other such topics.

This collection is composed of items published by Marketing and Communications, with most of the material being Today at State, Faculty Bulletin, University Bulletin, SDSU Update, and E-Connect. Also included is a small amount of material dealing with the graphic identity of the university.

The collection consists of editorials written by Gordon Garnos between 1998 and 2016. The editorials were printed in the Watertown [South Dakota] Public Opinion and his column, Seeing South Dakota, was syndicated in newspapers in South Dakota. Lists of the editorials are included in the folders.

This collection is composed of the constitution and by-laws for the society as well as programs for graduation exercises and plays presented by the society. Also included are play programs presented in collaboration with other literary societies.

The Registrar's records are composed of a variety of material generated by the Office of Records and Registration. The bulk of the material consists of registration schedules for courses available at South Dakota State University. Included are announcements of short courses that cover a range of subjects, from agriculture to piano tuning. Also included are directories of students and faculty, programs from baccalaureate services, and information for fall registration, meeting minutes from various committees, correspondence, newspaper clippings, registration procedures, guidelines for selection of students for senior college, scheme of study forms for students, summer session registration changes in procedure, and a list of course number changes."

The materials in this collection were collected and donated by Dr. Charles Woodard of the South Dakota State University English Department. The collection is primarily composed of correspondence between Audrae Visser and Dr. Woodard and includes many of her writings to fulfill class assignments. Also included are photographs she took and written accounts of her frequent travel vacations, as well as materials related to her awards, honors, and activities as a poet and as a member of numerous organizations.

This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, photographs, and many poetic and prose writings by Visser including book reviews and reports, speeches, and a Pioneer Humor Project undertaken to fulfill the requirements of the Heritage of the Prairies Institute at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota.

This collection is composed mainly of materials pertaining to the Native American Club’s activities on campus. One of the activities created by the club is the South Dakota State University Wacipi (powwow) which is a major part of this collection. Folders on the Wacipi include photographs, finances, tapes, posters, evaluations, and contest registrations. A few Folders include pictures of other activities that the Native American Club has held such as Hand games, picnics, and basketball tournaments. Also includes is general club finances and budget requests made by the club to the Student Association.

The collectioin consist of a sample of early twentieth century letterhead for the Department of Music, alumni newsletters, choir related photographs, promotional material, and an example of student writing. Also included are t-shirts promoting the Pride of the Dakota marching band. This material is arranged alphabetically.

The bulk of the collection consists of programs for band, orchestra, choral, and ensemble events, including the Brookings Chamber Music Society series, as well as, Faculty and Student Recitals, including Junior and Senior Recitals. Many, but not all, include program notes or translations. Some contain newspaper clippings, promotional material such as posters, and photographs. This material is arranged chronologically by date of the event.

This collection is composed of files from the office of David F. Pearson while serving as Vice President for Administration. Folders consist mainly of correspondence and files dealing with the F. O. Butler Foundation, the engineering controversy of the early 1970s, and material dealing with the celebration of the United States Bicentennial celebration on the campus of South Dakota State University.

The correspondence consists of letters sent and received by David F. Pearson while service was Vice President for Administration.

The F.O. Butler Foundation files are composed of material dealing with the organization of the F.O. Butler Foundation at South Dakota State University. Folders contain approved requests, Articles of Incorporation, campus enrichment, and correspondence files.

The Engineering Controversy files is composed of material dealing with the controversy surrounding the possible removal of the College of Engineering from South Dakota State University in the early 1970s. Folders contain correspondence, analysis, departmental actions, clippings, and master plan material.

The Bicentennial Celebration files is composed of material dealing with the celebration of the United States Bicentennial on the campus of South Dakota State University. Folders consist of budget and proposal material, committee minutes, calendar of events, and correspondence.

This collection is composed of material related to activities of Dr. Alexander. The bulk of the material is composed of files related to her writing and speeches. Folders consist of correspondence, research, agreements with publishers, grant material, and manuscripts. Researchers will also find records related to her term on the Brookings School Board including material related to her campaign, papers related to her involvement in Chautauqua, and records dealing with her term as head of the English Department at South Dakota State University, with a small amount of material related to courses she taught. Also included is material related to various other activities conducted by Alexander, such as her involvement with the Episcopal Church, and research dealing with women, women's rights, pioneer women, feminism and sexism. Also included are files related to Alexander’s term serving on the South Dakota Commission on the Status of Women.

This collection is composed of appointment books, correspondence, clippings, certificates, biographical material, photographs, material published by Dr. Hogan, and material collected by Dr. Hogan in his research.

The South Dakota Farmers Alliance Records consists of an address of President Loucks, proceedings from a convention in 1887, and an advertisement for A Book for Farmers.

This collection is composed of material related to the undertaking of such a trip. Much of the material contained here includes the media surrounding the event. There are numerous clippings and excerpts from radio spots highlighting the event. Some of the correspondence is interesting, as it shows the earliest stages of the trip. Much of the planning material for this event seems to be lost, however.

Material relating to Jim Marking's career in coaching basketball as collected by him. Includes some instructional materials and basketball handouts, notes, notebooks of plays, record forms, and game programs, etc. Also includes press clippings regarding his retirement in 1974 and numerous congratulatory letters and cards for both his retirement and for his induction into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.

This collection is composed of the papers of Robert V. Burns. The bulk of the collection is related to the NAFTA Conference arranged by Dr. Burns in 2000, the South Dakota Executive Branch reorganization, and material associated with his involvement as a commissioner on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (W.I.C.H.E.).

The NAFTA Conference material deals with the Canadian/United States Agricultural Trade Issues Emerging form NAFTA conference. Included is correspondence with participants, and government officials, publications, publicity, talking points, conference proceedings, and a copy of South Dakota governor William Janklow's keynote speech. The South Dakota Executive Branch Reorganization includes material associated with the Citizen's Commission on Executive Reorganization on which Dr. Burns served. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is composed meeting agenda books and publications of the commission.

Also included are minutes, agenda and correspondence associated with the various committees and commissions on which Burns served, such as the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, the Constitutional Revision Commission, files pertaining to railroad safety in Brookings, South Dakota, judicial elections, and a file pertaining to his State Representative campaign in 1980.

This collection is composed of manuscripts and published works of Beryl Stewart as well as material she collected and scrapbooks she created throughout her career.

The collected works are composed of clippings about Stewart from newspapers, a book in which her name is mentioned, and several issues of Word Craft, a publication from Aberdeen Central High School to which Stewart was an adviser.

The correspondence covers the years from 1923 to 1942 and includes reference letters and letters from publishers.

The manuscripts are composed of essays, poems and short stories that Stewart wrote. Also included are works that Stewart entered in the South Dakota State Fair literature contests, some of which contain criticisms of her work and ribbons awarded. Many of these are included in the scrapbooks.

The published works are composed essays, poems and short stories that Stewart published in several literary and rural publications.
The scrapbooks are composed of scrapbooks that include correspondence and clippings from publications to which Beryl Stewart submitted her writings.

Composed of Lonita Gustad Corothers' diaries from 1946 through 2010, excerpts from and a timeline index of the diaries, correspondence with Tom Corothers written primarily during their courtship, a grief notebook written after her husband died, and her original writings and poetry. Of note are the daily descriptions of her experiences as a student at South Dakota State College from 1946 to 1950.

This collection is composed of reports produced by the Curricula Evaluation Committee.

Dr. Granholm’s papers span his long career at South Dakota State University as well as his interactions with the University of Winnipeg in Canada and Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. He took many detailed notes of his daily activities, events attended, and notes on book he read and conferences he attended. Included is correspondence, programs, articles, clippings, notes, and photographs.

NOTEBOOKS
The notebooks are composed of professional diaries, calendars, and notes. Each notebook was assigned a number by the donor and have a table of contents with page numbers in the front. Granholm recorded notes on events he attended or participated in, notes on books he read, and may contain inclusions, such as, programs, articles, and clippings.

CONFERENCES
This series consists of files on conferences which Granholm attended or participated in. Conferences programs, proceedings, schedules, and session notes.

CORRESPONDENCE
This series consists of both letters and emails. The material is arranged both chronologically and alphabetically.

COURSE MATERIAL
Material in this series is composed of files used in courses taught by Granholm. Courses taught include Global Studies, Honors courses, Biology courses, Botany, and Zoology. The bulk of the material is from Bioethics and Global Studies I and II. Also included are files related to an Honor Colloquium on a variety of different topics.

Dr. Granholm wrote many scholarly articles during his career related to his research. Included are manuscripts and off-prints of many of these articles.

The book sale information consists of the largest part of this collection, which documents the annual book sale held by the club as a fundraiser. It includes price lists, ledger sheets, and sign-up sheets.

The Faculty Housing Company records are composed primarily of meeting minutes (annual, special, and board of directors meetings), stock holder information, and letters written to stockholders from incorporation in 1952 to dissolution in 1963. The collection also includes advertisement brochures and signs of the company, correspondences with stockholders, floor plans of the corporation's property, and quarterly reports.

The South Dakota Resources Coalition consists of administrative material and subject files. The administrative material consists of meeting minutes, committee files, correspondence, financial and membership records and publications. The subject files consist of research SDRC has performed throughout the years, mainly to assist them in their lobbying efforts. The subjects deal mainly with environmental issues as they relate to South Dakota.

This collection is composed of the records of the Office of Information Technology and includes files from the Computing Services, Vice President's Office, Information Technology Services, and Classroom Technologies Services. Folders may include newsletters, manuals, correspondence, minutes, reports, audio/visual material, and materials related to the Y2K problem.
The Computing Services files are composed of newsletters, manuals, correspondence, and minutes for the several committees and councils including the Computer User's Advisory Council and the Computing Directors Council. Included is a full run of the Computing Services newsletter. This newsletter includes a subject index for each volume year.

This collection is composed of a material published for the Little International Agricultural Exposition for advertising purposes. Folders contain news releases, posters, and programs.

The collection consists of aerial photographs of western South Dakota, particularly around the Black Hills area. Some of the images track beetle infestations in the Black Hills. Images taken by the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Agriculture.

The collection is primarily composed of photographs collected by Billow, as well as awards, writings, correspondence, and her family’s genealogical documents and photographs. Papers and photographs relating to her role planning and organizing the 2000 and 2001 South Dakota Tours for new faculty at SDSU are also included. The scrapbook contains family genealogical documents such as birth, confirmation, and marriage documents, as well as Dr. Billow’s original art including watercolors, ink drawings, and sketches.

The painting is a ‘legacy’ in the archives. A handwritten note in the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs collection from Chuck Cecil (Nov. 3, 1967) reads “Contact Mrs. Earl Washburn of Fulton, S.D. regarding painting by Mrs. Evelyn Hubbard of Old North & Old Central. They desire the painting go to the Art Center.

This collection consists of six Sumerian Cuneiform Tablets, a translation by Edgar J. Banks, research and manuscript material. Five of the tablets are approximately 1.5" x 1.5" in size. The tablets come from Ancient Mesopotamia, a historical region of Western Asia situated within the Tigris-Euphrates river system, in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent, corresponding to most of modern day Iraq, Kuwait, the eastern parts of Syria, and Southwestern Turkey. The translation found with the tablets provides only general information about each tablet: date, place found, and general description. The translations state that three of the tablets are records of receipt for temple offerings, one a sealed temple record and one contract or business document.

South Dakota State College President Willis E. Johnson, who was president of South Dakota State College from 1919 to 1923, purchased the tablets from Edgar James Banks in 1923 for $26.00.

The sixth tablet is 4 inches wide x 6.5 inches long. This tablet was transferred to the archives from the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum. A label affixed to the tablet reads: Egyptian Prescription given me by Daphne Serles and had belonged to Dr. Earl Serles. This script was misidentified as Egyptian hieroglyphics but is indeed Sumerian Cuneiform. This tablet has no transcription.

The appointment of a Joint Dean of Education and Professor of Educational Administration in June of 2002 by the South Dakota Board of Regents began collaboration between the South Dakota State University College of Education & Counseling, and the University of South Dakota School of Education. The Joint Dean's primary focus is to lead the education efforts on the two campuses, in addition to developing new educational opportunities in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This collection is composed of materials related to the collaboration of SDSU and USD in the Joint College of Education and Counseling. Folders include a brochure that gives examples of collaborations between the schools, a news release announcing the naming of Hank Rubin to the joint Deanship for the program, and material related to the 2004 Annual Convention for American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. This convention material includes a collection of papers and an inventory of initiatives prepared by participants in the No Child Left Behind Faculty Institute.

The undergraduate Teacher Education Program material is composed of materials related to the creation of the Undergraduate Teacher Education Program at South Dakota State University. Included are agendas, minutes, working documents, correspondence, and conference papers.

Composed of collected stories, publications, speeches and typewritten transcripts of Wahehe Heirship hearing. Collection also includes notebooks and manuscripts containing lists, definitions and transcriptions of many events related to Lakota history. Many stories told to Shunk when he was a United States Bureau of Indian Affairs agent are also rewritten in Shunk's own hand.

The bulk of the material is composed of administrative material generated and received by the Office of the President of South Dakota State University.

Folders consists of correspondence, budget material, reports, committee minutes, accreditation material, master and strategic planning files, South Dakota Board of Regents files, material related to Resolution 21, the college name change, and the engineering controversy of the 1970s. No material has been found for the following university presidents: James Chalmers, Robert L. Slagle, George Lincoln Brown, Harold M. Crothers, and H. Ray Hoops.

The Administrative records are composed of Extension correspondence with R. Milton Rich, Area Development Specialist, regarding the adult education program in 1964, and proposals for a division of continuing study, extension, and terminal education. Also included are Cooperative Extension Impact Statements for the West District and a history and philosophy of the service.

The 4-H publications are composed mainly of 4-H club publications directed at members and leaders of statewide 4-H clubs. These include newsletters, project guides, forms, reports, and other informative pamphlets. Also included is a state commemorative document noting the centennial of 4-H and club member record books from the 1930’s.

The personnel communications are composed of published items, which were distributed to extension personnel across the state. These items were bound, however, no system of arrangement could be determined except by year. The earlier items seem to have less arrangement than the more recent items. From about 1977, the items seem to be arranged by subject which covers a broad area including: 4-H, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, animal science, calendar of events, dairy, Farm and Ranch News, home economics, horticulture/forestry, plant science, State Fair, and veterinary science. Also included are some news releases that were left with this sub-group because they were bound together. In 2004, this material was microfilmed so material was unbound. These items are arranged first chronologically by year then alphabetically by the title on the bound item.

The National AgrAbility Project was established through a provision of the 1990 Farm Bill. Congress began funding the project in 1991. The goal is to inform, educate and assist individuals with disabilities and their families.

The South Dakota AgrAbility Project is a cooperative programming effort between South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension Service, Easter Seals of South Dakota, and Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center.

Records related to South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station Biochemistry consist of administrative files, research, and publications.

An item of note is a book of notes for a soils class from the early 1930's, which belonged to a student by the name of Paul Brown.

Included are bulletins, brochures, announcements, and materials from individuals or committees, which relate to the administration of the college. The bulk of the material consists of newsletters.

This collection is composed of center records, Atmospheric, Environmental, and Water Resources Ph.D. program records, research projects, and the Huron Recharge project records.

The administrative records are composed of a brochure from a lecture series titled Futuresigns, and a white paper describing the concept of a regional research center concentrating on the concerns of water use, protection, and availability in the Northern Great Plains region.

This collection also contains documents relating to the Atmospheric, Environmental and Water Resources, a joint PhD program between South Dakota State University (SDSU) and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT). In December 1991, the board considered a request from the School of Mines and South Dakota State University to approve a joint PhD program in Water resources. Approval was not given at first, because the request for new funds exceeded a specific amount. However, it was approved later the year. The AEWR program had been in a partnership with the AEWR program in the School of Mines and Technology. They created a joint program in Atmospheric, Environmental and Water Resources. This joint program provided PhD education and degrees in the fields of atmospheric, environmental and water resources. Due to the lack of assistantship funds and a low enrollment, the program closed in 2004. The reports and papers cover such topics such as bridge approaches and developments, water management, networks, and systems. In addition, the records contain files regarding the Huron Recharge Project.

The Research Projects includes research projects in the field of water resources. The reports and papers cover such topics such as bridge approaches and developments, water management, networks, and systems.

The Huron Recharge Project records includes materials from the Huron Recharge Project. There are several reports on water usage and project activities in Huron.

This collection is composed of departmental records up to June 30, 2018 when the department moved administrativesly to the College of Natural Sciences. Included is a report for sabbatical during the spring 2007 semester by Dr. Joel Rauber. Included is a copy of the first two pages of the sabbatical leave request and a copy of the Physics 211 Laboratory Manual that Dr. Rauber rewrote during his sabbatical. He also revamped a few of the laboratories to take into account current equipment and possible improvements.

This collection is composed of records related to the removal of the College of Engineering from South Dakota State University in the early 1970s. Included are meeting minutes, reports, and research.

The Home Management records are composed of photographs and historical material about the Home Management program at South Dakota State College. Folders include books compiled for Alice Rosenberger, Dean of the College of Home Economics by Grace Wasson Bonnell, alumni. These books contain photographs and anecdotal information about of children who participated in the Home Management baby program. Also included is a history of the program and plans for a new laboratory, the Family Resource and Management Center.

This collection is composed of general college records generated by the Office of the Dean for the College of Registration and the College of General Studies and Outreach Programs. Folders consist of brochures, reports, correspondence, handbooks, newsletters, posters and course announcements and schedules.

This collection is composed of materials that pertain to the college. Folders contain booklets, programs, brochures, correspondence, minutes, periodicals, reports, posters, and photographs.

A large portion of the material deals with Engineering and Science Research at South Dakota State University. This material consists of summary sheets, reports and correspondence and is arranged by researcher name. This material covers research for engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, and agronomy.

Also included is biographical information on prominent persons related to the College of Engineering, including, Harold M. Crothers, Harry Solberg, Halvor Solberg, and Guy Lee Boyden.

A file on the engineering controversy of the early 1970s dealing with the possible transfer of the College of Engineering from South Dakota State University to another institution in the state. This material consists mainly of clippings, but also included is correspondence and notes.

Other items of note include several files of brochures on the various programs offered by the college, the Impulse magazine, a periodical published by the college featuring events and happenings in the college, and file dealing with the history of the College of Engineering at South Dakota State University.

The Goodale Papers consist of scanned page printouts of a scrapbook documenting their experiences as South Dakota State College students from 1953 to 1957. The scrapbook also contains material collected by the Goodales following their graduation up to 2013.

This collection is composed of awards received by Jim Emmerich during his career in athletics.

Composed of publications produced by the Horticulture, Forestry, Landscape and Parks Department. Material included newsletters, programs, certificates, record books, clippings, info-sheets, surveys, pamphlets, and a survey.

Also included is a botany ledger used to teach the manes of plants and study plant anatomy. Included are descriptions of the plant and a plant sample pressed between the pages. This ledger was most likely compiled by a student, although there is no distinct evidence to that.

Researchers are urged to view this material with care as the pages are loose and the plant samples are very fragile and contain allergens.

The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Stations Records is composed of material generated by the stations and includes financial reports, general office records, research, institutional reviews, and publications, including some bulletins and circulars. Also included are files related to station biochemistry.

The administrative files are composed of general office records generated by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. Folders contain newsletters, committee files, task force files, correspondence, brochures, programs, and financial data. In addition, the series contains reports of the Agricultural Experiment Station during the time period of 1907-1916. This information should also appear in the published reports of the Agricultural Experiment Station.

The research is composed of research conducted by Experiment Station staff. Folders consist mainly of final reports, but may also include some correspondence. Material for inactive and terminated projects is also included.

Publications consist of bulletins, circulars, leaflets, and pamphlets published by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station on research conducted by staff of the Experiment Station and are meant for distribution like a periodical. Some cross-over in subject and title may occur between bulletins and circulars. This is an incomplete collection of Agricultural Experiment Station publications. Items are added to this collection only after it has been determined that the library's collection is complete. It is suggested that, when conducting research, the library catalog be searched for a particular title, author, or number. Various other South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station publications can be found in this collection. Folders consist mainly of reports or preliminary reports. Also included are leaflets and pamphlets and a video cassette on manure management. Leaflet or pamphlet numbers were included if present in the publication.

The seed releases material is comprised of information regarding various seeds that have been developed through the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.

The Dairy Science Department Records are cmposed of departmental records, publications and Dairy Husbandry records which consist of correspondence, reports, registry materials, receipts, bills, inventories, statements, photographs and miscellaneous items.

The administrative records are composed of clippings, correspondence, policy manuals, photographs/negatives, bulletins, leaflets, newsletters, programs, reports and miscellaneous items. Included is material on cooperative education, creamery short courses, Diary Industry Week, Dairy Princess judging, and a history of the Dairy Science Department, which was revised in 1994-95. An item of note is a scrapbook from the early 1900, which contains clippings of dairy related material. Some unusual items included are two small milk cartons used by the Dairy Science Department.

The photographs were collected by the Dairy Science Department over the years. These photographs cover a wide range of topics, from barns and local creameries, to ice cream and yogurt. Some photographs are of experiments conducted by the Dairy Science Department, including bloat procedures, diseases bovine udders and a vitamin D deficiency/sun deprivation experiment. Some items of note include glass plates for experiment station bulletin publications. Ask the Special Collections staff for assistance in viewing these photographs. Folders and arranged in alphabetical order.

The Dairy Husbandry records are composed of correspondence and general office files which include reports, registry materials, receipts, bills, inventories, statements, photographs and miscellaneous items. The bulk of this collection is correspondence from companies and area dairy farmers to and from the head of the Dairy Husbandry department during the years covered. Other items in this collection show the day to day operation of the department. An item of note is correspondence from Ben Reifel while he was a student at SDSC looking for employment.
Items such as receipts, daily creamery reports, test supervisor's reports for advanced registry and feed record report cards were sampled and a small collection kept indicating how the reports were filled out and what they were used for. The photographs were separated and are housed in the photograph collection. Folders are arranged in alphabetical order and there under chronologically.

This collection is composed of material produced by the Visual Arts Department. Folders include programs, pamphlets, exhibition material, clippings and photographs. Some items of note include completed student projects for the Art History course and photographs of Ada B. Caldwell and Maud Goddard, early Art faculty at South Dakota State College. Also included is a scrapbook created by students belonging to the Delta Phi Delta Art Fraternity. This scrapbook consists of clippings, memorabilia and original artwork by members.

Composed of oral interviews of various persons on topics such as South Dakota State University, South Dakota, and Brookings, SD region conducted by students for the Bicentennial Oral History Project. Also included is a pamphlet about the History program.

This collection is composed mainly of material for a course in Solid Waste Engineering and Management. Also included are brochures, fact sheets and other material related to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

The Solid Waste Engineering and Management material consists of course notes, syllabi, and exams. This material was most likely created by Dwayne Rollag and Vernon Schaefer, Professors of Civil Engineering, who were coordinators of this course in the early 1990s, but the only evidence to support this is the occurrence of their names on the course syllabi.

Other material of note in this collection is a certificate awarding the Civil Engineering Department second place for the most beautiful float for the 1949 Hobo Day parade, and a field notebook for a land survey of the South Dakota State College campus. While there is no date on this item, the processer decided the survey was completed around 1900 based on the building listed in the survey.

This collection is composed of material generated by programs within the Engineering Resource Center: Office of Remote Sensing, South Dakota Space Grant Consortium, South Dakota Local Transportation Assistance Program, University/Industry Technology Service, Publications, and Essential Networking and Training for Entrepreneurship.

The General Records consist of items published by the Engineering Resource Center. Folders contain newsletters and a faculty expertise directory.

The Office of Remote Sensing was established in 1969 as the Remote Sensing Institute. Senator Karl Mundt was instrumental in bringing the program to South Dakota. It is funded by both state and federal funds. Its purpose is to use multispectral remotely sensed imagery and geographic information systems for natural resource studies and mapping projects in South Dakota and throughout the world. This series is composed of correspondence, newsletters, brochures, reports, photogrammetry images and pocket stereoscopes. The pocket stereoscopes are used in reading the photogrammetry, or aerial photographs.

The South Dakota Space Grant Consortium is a program funded in part by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Consortium members are South Dakota State University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Augustana College and the EROS Data Center. Goals of the Consortium are to create an enthusiasm for aerospace science among students and faculty and to encourage them to pursue careers in related fields. This series is composed of newsletters, research award announcements, and applications and information pertaining to faculty, graduate and undergraduate assistantship awards.

The South Dakota Local Transportation Assistance Program assists local governments with technology and information needed to operate their transportation related agencies. This series is composed of newsletters, brochures, catalogs, and special bulletins.

The University/Industry Technology Service links university resources to industry, business and government to solve technological problems and enhance economic development in South Dakota. This series consists of brochures and programs from symposiums hosted by the University/Industry

The Essential Networking and Training for Entrepreneurship [ENTRE] program provides training for people who may have an interest in pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities. This is an intensive 10-session course that allows participants to test and research their business ideas. The mission of ENTRE is to foster and promote entrepreneurship and economic development in the state and to develop programs for the general business community or various specialty groups. This series consists of a newsletter and a brochure outlining the ENTRE program.

This collection is composed of academic materials, clippings and releases, history material, photographs, scrapbooks and reports. The academic material deals mainly with the establishment of a core curriculum within the College. The clippings and releases are newspaper clippings and news releases about the college. The history material is a compilation of historical material and alumni memories of the College of Home Economics. Also included is correspondence, building plans, and lists of outstanding graduates.
The photographs include many miscellaneous photographs documenting the history of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences that were found loose in the collection or from dismantled scrapbooks.
The photographs from the scrapbooks pertain to deans, research, education, nutrition and food science, and textiles, clothing and interior design.

The reports are composed mainly of annual reports to the president of the university and some federal reports to the U.S. Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare.

The Florence and Geraldine Fenn Inner-City Scholarship collection is composed of scrapbooks, journals, photographs, and miscellaneous materials related to the Fenn Scholarship. Included are photos of the Fenn Scholars and the places they worked and lived in Denver, Colorado, their weekly expense sheets and itineraries, journals relating their experiences, newspaper clippings, and many brochures from sites in Denver.

The material was originally arranged in scrapbooks, which were dismantled for preservation purposes. The photographs were separated to the UA Photograph Archives. Any ephemera in the scrapbooks were placed in separate folders. Three of the scrapbooks (1989-1991) were retained in their original condition as an example.

Composed mainly of books given to instructors as complimentary copies. These books deal with topics related to family and consumer sciences teacher education. Also included in audio-visual material used in class instruction and VHS video cassettes. One of the video cassettes is of a slide presentation created by Arthur Amiotte. Also included are plaques, brochures and programs related to the Human Development, Consumer and Family Sciences Department.

Composed of Graduate School records, Graduate Council minutes, Graduate Faculty records, and records of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Folders consist of newsletters, pamphlets, info sheets, brochures, announcements, schedules, meeting minutes, and correspondence.

This series is composed of articles and books by Ethel Austin Martin, transcripts, correspondence, ephemera, awards, and photographs. The articles include publications created by Ethel Austin Martin during her time as director of nutrition services for the National Dairy Council. The books include a copy of the various editions and reprints for r topics include memories of her career, research, and family. The "Nutrition in Action" and "Roberts' Nutrition Work with Children," which also includes a galley proof. The transcripts are from an interview conducted by John E. Miller in 1989. These are Martin's reminiscences of her time growing up in Brookings and Bruce, South Dakota as well as her time at South Dakota Agricultural College. Topics about the college include Presidents, Hobo Day, Literary Societies, campus buildings, campus activities, sports, buildings, and individuals she had contact with, including Hubert Mathieu, Hubert Mathew, and N.E. Hansen, among others. Othe audio cassettes for these transcripts were not included with this donation.

There is a fairly large amount of correspondence included with this collection. Most of this is between Ethel Austin Martin and South Dakota State University officials and pertain to the establishment of the Ethel Austin Martin Program in Human Nutrition. Also included is correspondence from friends and associates on the occasion of Ethel Austin Martin's 100th birthday, and letters pertaining to professional appointments. Also found in this collection is material related to her education; such as grade reports from elementary school to college, diplomas, and a teaching certificate, awards presented to Martin, and material related to her marriage to Edward Martin; such as their marriage license, photographs, and a memory book. Also included is ephemera related to her life in college including club membership pins, a college graduation pin from 1916, calling cards, and a blanket worn by Ethel Austin Martin during first Hobo Day parade at South Dakota State College in 1912. The photographs include images of Martin's marriage, her youth, her retirement from the National Dairy Council, and the signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement with South Dakota State University establishing the endowment for the Program in Human Nutrition.

This collection is composed of the records of the Faculty Women's Club from the beginnings of the club in 1917 to the late 1990's when the club evolved into the SDSU Club. Material found in the collection consists mainly of minutes, president's reports, constitutions, newsletters, directories, programs, photographs, clippings and financial records, including a loan fund ledger and scholarship information. Also included is material on faculty receptions, teas, and luncheons, material on the club's involvement with the Memorial Art Center, and several histories of the club. A history of the auxiliary club of the Newcomers Club is also included, along with minutes of their meetings.

In 1993, the Faculty Women's Club celebrated its 75th anniversary and put on a style show that gave a history of the club since its establishment. A script and a video recording of the event are included here.

This collection also includes SDSU Club materials from 1998 to the present, including brochures, posters and invitations.

This collection is composed of the minutes from faculty meetings held at South Dakota State University from its inception up through the 1980's. These files are fairly complete; with large gaps being noted from fall 1898-Spring 1903 and June 1907-March 1918. Very few other minutes are missing, however. Included with some of the files are materials related to topics being discussed at the meetings, such as a petition by a student group, or a brochure from a campus event. For the most part, the contents of the minutes are fairly dry and businesslike, although some gems might be discovered with careful attention.

This is an artificial collection of student essays written between 1890 and 1901. The essays do not appear to be theses, nor do they appear to be only senior class essays. Some authors appear more than once, and none appear to be graduate students. While all of the essays have an author and title, many include only the graduating class of the author, not the date the essay was written.

The physical makeup of the essays is interesting. Most of the essays are around 20 pages in length, indicating work of some depth. A few are bound, while others are sewn together and some are stapled. Some are handwritten, but most are typewritten. Many of them have ribbons or other decoration on the cover or holding the piece together. Illustrations found in them are hand drawn, sometimes in great detail.

The essays themselves are of some interest, although their informational content is most likely dated. The topics covered by the essays are quite diverse, ranging from bread to bridge construction. A large number of the essays seem to relate to the study of the English language, the mechanical arts, with agriculture, engineering and woodcarving. Some other topics include entomology, molds, music and sewing.

This is an artificial collection that consists of 95 athletic and general scrapbooks, which contain newspaper clippings from newspapers and publications from across the state of South Dakota. The athletic scrapbooks include clippings from all sports featured at South Dakota State University from 1947 to 1967. The general scrapbooks cover a wide range of topics; from articles featuring athletics, agriculture and research conducted on campus to articles written about and by college presidents and faculty members. The clippings inside of the scrapbooks are arranged by year and not topic.

This collection is composed of minutes and materials published by the South Dakota Board of Regents and collected by the office of the president and various other department at South Dakota State University. The minutes series is composed of agendas, minutes, and material related to meetings. The later minutes include an index to the minutes with subject notations in the margins. The publications are composed of items published by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

This collection is composed mainly of slides and photographs related to Gardner's research on virus diseases of plants, with a focus on wheat streak mosaic virus and tobacco mosaic virus. Also included is material related to crop injuries related to the environment and air pollution. Other material included publications related to his research.

This collection consists of administrative files, curriculum materials, events and conferences, facilities, teaching, grants and fundraising materials, meeting files, personal and professional research and activities, and manuscripts.

The Administrative files includes general correspondence, memos, Norman Gambill's calendars and appointment books and documents on department and course staffing, enrollment, and general planning. Some materials pre-date Gambill's arrival at South Dakota State University.

The curriculum material consists of Institutional Program Reviews, general education, liberal studies, and visual arts core review, and various curricular issues and concerns. This subseries focuses on curriculum work at a campus level, through visual arts curriculum work discussed at campus-level meetings. The events and conferences material is composed of records on department art shows and exhibitions, the TechSigns conference, Design and Visual Arts Group, Inc. (DVAGI) events, and other departmental activities. Some materials pre-date Gambill's arrival at South Dakota State University.

The facilities files include material on the Fine Arts Auditorium (not called the Performing Arts Center), the Visual Arts Department site including the Industrial Arts building and Grove Hall, facility studies, planning and remodeling, and facility maintenance and health concerns. The teaching material consists of Dr. Gambill's personal files and includes course outlines, teaching research, course study guide packets, and VHS video of three course lectures. Some teaching materials pre-date Gambill's arrival at South Dakota State University.

The grants and fundraising material includes records on grant applications, awarded grants, and fundraising for programs and publications. Some materials pre-date Gambill's arrival at South Dakota State University.

The meeting files are composed of meeting agenda, minutes, and corresponding documents related to Visual Arts Department faculty meetings, Deans and Department Heads meetings, Academic Senate, and various other campus committees. Memoirs, correspondence, reports, and notes are included within these files and were likely discussed and/or distributed during the meetings. The arrived in disarray with only some bearing folder titles. Additionally, the term "Faculty Meetings" was broadly used and may refer to meetings beyond only Visual Arts Department meetings. For example, "Dean's and Departments Heads" meeting agendas may be found in "Faculty Meetings" folders, possibly for facilitating announcements at department faculty meetings. Personal and professional research and activities materials Include Gambill's research and correspondence regarding his writings, files regarding membership and participation in local organizations, and professional recognition and thank-you correspondence. Also included is some personal correspondence, recognition material, a resume, and photographs. Some materials pre-date Gambill's arrival at South Dakota State University.

The manuscript files are composed of unpublished manuscripts and Gambill’s Ph.D. thesis. Included are several revisions of “Ritz and American Mediocrity,” and “Designing Hollywood: Productions of Harry Horner, 1940-1980,” and “Citizen Kane: An Art Historical Analysis,” which was Gambills Ph.D. thesis from Syracuse University.
